06 Explorer Overdrive question

There is no Explorer subforum on here, so I figured I would ask in here since this gets the most traffic.

2006 Explorer XLT with the 4.0. Same floor shifter as the F150. Recently, the overdrive has been working intermittently. Light on the dash will go on and OD will engage and work for a few days, then wont work for a week or more.

Any reason behind this? Is it an electronic switch that is failing?

You really need to hook it up and see what codes come up
My wife had one with the same motor and transmission, turned
Out to be the torque converter... It wasn't a cheap fix. I certainly
Hope that's not the case with yours but getting the codes will at least point you in the right direction

Welcome back to the Ford scene Mig!

As for the issue, unsure. Dealership would be the best place to take it. Maybe see if a Sport Trac forum has anything similar to the issue.
