Truck would NOT start!

Has anyone had any problems starting their truck in scorching 100+ degrees? I was stuck at a parking lot for quite some time and this happened 30 minutes ago this evening. It wouldn't start after 2 to 3 tries. Then, it read CHECK GAUGES on the dash. I had to wait for awhile and then crank it again. After the 4th try, it started after pressing the gas pedal. The temperature gauge on the dash read 102 degrees, but when I turned on the heater in full blast, the temp went down to 91. It only happens during the summer heat and never really happened before. I'm getting fustrated!!!

Thanks for you help.
