New to site need some help

Hi guys I'm new to the site just joined today I recently got rid of my 03 expedition with the 4.6 and had no problems except a coil pack. So my question is I'm about to buy a 2005 supercrew cab xlt 4x4 with the 5.4 with 98,xxx the body is real nice no rust also has matching cap I'm buying it from a private owner for $9500. I have listened to the motor and it seems quite no ticks knocks that I can hear I drove it cold and let it warm up still did not hear nothing my question is what else should I look for? Cam phasers seem quite I'm not sure what else to look for and what about price? The guy told me he was second owner he bought it with 79,xxx and that was 3 years ago any help would be great

Have the plugs been done yet? What oil filters have been used? Does he have any maintainance history?

I only ask because when I bought my 06 last year that had 78,000 miles the plugs had not been done and it was running an off brand oil filter. At about 90,000 miles it developed the tick. Phasers, timing kit, and one rocker had gone south. None of which were big jobs. I had also changed the plugs and oil/filter as soon as I bought it.

If the truck looks good, I wouldn't hesitate. There is enough information on the web, and this site alone to help you through any issues that may show up down the road.

If everything is straight mechanically with it, that sounds like a hell of a deal.

That's a stellar price, guy might not know what it's worth as long as it's in good shape. A dealer would give him more than that as a trade-in. Especially if it's quiet, it's a great price.

I think everything looks good lifted! But I'll hopefully have my 06 in the air in a few weeks.

I will recommend asking him to take it to a mechanic you trust, and getting it up on a lift and inspected. Usually runs $100 or so to have done, but it's cheap insurance.

Agree with KMAC, if the truck is $9500 what's another $100? Worst case scenario, you find out why the price is $9500.

That is a great price. I got my 05 Lariat with 99k for $13,5k. My trucks previous owner was also an older guy who did mostly highway miles transporting antiques. That was a year ago, since then I've had to replace both front window regulators, battery (original battery) and the brake pads and rotors. Yours sounds like a great deal. I say go for it.
