Stick with motorcraft. I believe the redesigned plugs are one piece, but I could be wrong.

Use Motorcraft plugs with nickel antiseize on the shank and they will come out easy the next time you change them.

You got a really nice low mileage truck there.

The "big" lean issues with the K&N concern [possible] movement of the MAF sensor from the stock placement, and [potential] over oiling of the filter which can lead to contamination of the MAF sensor. Most engines are fine with the stock air system, or a Gotts mod.

Most folks who have invested in a programmer are much pleased with the improved throttle response and transmission shifting. Don't expect to get any better mileage with a programmer... it will be about the same as before, but the truck will drive better.

Thanks again for all the comments!

So in the near future I'll be placing an order for the plugs.. I was also thinking about doing the coils since I'll be there...

I know the Motorcraft part number is DG511... What I do not know is what should I expect to pay?

I found a set of Coils, claiming to be Motorcraft, and plugs SP515 on ebay for a total package cost of 289 shipped. While I like this price I am concerned a bit because most other places are selling the same thing for around double that.

Any thoughts on this?

Really can't beat the price if those are really Motorcraft DG511's

Cheers and thanks again

At that low of miles I wouldn't think you would need to change the COPs. Those usually last pretty long. Well over 100,000 miles.. If you decide to get those COPs ask for a real picture tho. Alot of people claim motorcraft COPs to try and sell the cheap junk.

Thats good to know! I was asking a mechanic friend of mine if he had the plug removal tool just incase I broke one.. during that conversation he told me I'd prolly break a coil or two getting them off. Not sure I believe that but that is what got me thinking of doing the coils while I'm there.

Appreciate the info

You might break the rubber boot (separate piece) but if you are careful you shouldn't break the COP. They are only held in with one bolt. Just don't over tighten the bolt when you put them back on.

I imagine its pretty much the same process has the 5.4 2V I had in my old 2003 Super Duty. I did that with out any issues so I'm confident I'll be ok.

On another note, I managed to pull out the Pioneer 940BT I had in the F250. Just got finished installing today after work. I think it looks pretty darn good in the Lariat Dash!

I wouldn't do the COPs either until later. I thought the new SP515s were one-piece too, but MGD corrected me, so I don't know.

I'll most likely use the SP515.. one piece or not I'd prefer to use the ones that work best! While I've heard of some folks having great experiences from the Champ one piece I have read an equal amount that have not.

So here's an update!

I just recieved my order of new SP515 this weekend... Unfortunately I was gone the whole weekend so I never got around to doing the plug change. Will probably wait till next weekend to start it. Sometime next week I will also receive an OEM Intake set up to swap the K&N out with. I'll run this until I can get my hands on a tuner.

Anyhow.. thats that!

Cheers

good lucking truck, congratulations on the purchase! I will always be nostalgic for my old 04 F-150 in that same color combo so it's nice to see one in such great shape.

Be sure to run a few tanks of techron through before the plug change. I just had mine done on my '08 at 65K. I ran three tanks through prior to change. No plugs broke! I was too much of a chicken to attempt this myself with all of the horror stories I had read. I did not have the COPs changed. Just for reference, it cost me $397 at the dealership. Below is a pic of my plugs...

Good luck!

thanks for the feedback guys.

I've already ran 1 tank with Techron... guess today I'll go and fill up and add another. Better safe then sorry!

While I'm not looking forward to doing the job.. I feel confindent if I take my time I'll get it done without too much trouble!

Cheers
