One man's dream is another man's nightmare....imo

The automotive world is full of trials and errors and designs that get pushed to the production floor without ever seeing a true test....

Ford did realize that their revolutionary design did have flaws and after 4 years of production did change it...the same thing happened in the 97-03's with the 4 thread heads and plugs...

Automotive companies ain't perfect ...there's crap that happens to everyone of their makes and models...

I could go on and post everything that i know about issues in every make and model out there...but I'm not going to

Crap happens...move on...

That's exactly what I was saying initial, before prodded . . . I said only the initial one was bad, and even then not too big of a deal

The more I read and talk to people the more I am beginning to believe that these trucks need to be purchased new. I bought mine slightly used, and it was plagued with problems. It took a few months to get them all corrected, but at least it never left me stranded. The truck has been rock solid ever since, and I've got 45,000 miles on it now. I would have bought a new one, but I couldn't pass up the deal on my 08'. As much as I like my truck, my next one is going to be brand new. It is a s*%t feeling when you come to the realization that you bought someone else's problems. It is a hassle when you have to go and get the problems fixed. I understand where you are coming from. When you buy used though you'll never know if the vehicle was well cared for. The average person doesn't care about maintaining a car properly. They think all they have to do is put gas in it and change the oil. I'm extreme myself; I keep Excel spreadsheets for maintenance on all of my vehicles.

I also used the spreadsheets when I was the Officer in charge of the fleet at my last job. They come in very handy!

I bought my 2008 slightly used with 32k miles & switched the Ford ESP from my 2007 trade into my 2008. I'm at 43K miles now and all is well. I've got warranty threw 12/2015 or 100K miles. It was owned by an older couple who got tired of climbing up & into it for a Taurus.I got a car fax report & oasis report from where it was originally purchased. The thing is mint . I feel blessed.

I bought mine mildly used, mostly a highway queen, at 79k miles in 2011, currently at 120k miles going on the 3rd year of having it, and it has only been simple wear & tear maintenance. I have spent 3 times the amount of maintenance costs into modding it to preference. Very happy with the truck. I would get rid of it for a blue flame FX4 5.0L Supercrew loaded for the right price, but with only $4000 left until title is mine, I may just bite my tongue and do that dang responsible thing.

Run it into the ground you probably have another 200K usefull miles left in her! You will be happy when you have a mountain of money to pay for your next truck in cold hard cash!

Everyone loves everyone here .

We all have our opinions of one another of us 'regulars' on here. MGD gets crazy, sometimes funny, sometimes too much. He's corrected me in absurd terminology and pushed my buttons probably to just see how easy I am to crack. Without a doubt, he never posts false information and made a point to correct myself with false information. For which I am appreciative for, have learned a few things. Not to post unless certain of what i'm claiming, and to grow up some and lighten up. Hes a good contributor.

I don't know for certain, but I believe I am the first to ever use my truck to tow. From what I heard of it, it was owned as a corporate vehicle for a near by company and was highway driven more than anything. Especially in winter as much as the frame is pitted.

Oh I know! He liked me because of how much I can take and dish out. We were "best buds" for a while, but I guess it's cyclical with 'im haha. Enemy, friend, current status, maybe friends again, I don't know

I figured mine hadn't towed too much with the 22s, but my leafs are sagged pretty good and are uneven by almost a half inch. So I guess they've had some loads on em! Previous owner had it since it was almost exactly 1 year old, but I'm the 4th. 2 had it for 6 months a piece. I was wary of that, but I figured it was fine because of how long the 3rd one had it and it's been just fine for the 15k miles I've put on it!

The 5.4 3v is a good reliable motor. Yea the cam phasers rattle on some (o well... doesn't hurt performance) spark plugs sucked changing in the earlier models (o well not a big deal... I changed mine 05 fx4 I broke 1 out of 8 had close to 90,000 on oem plugs and my cousin changed his 06 fx4 5.4 broke none) My 05 fx4 5.4 3v was a good truck no major issues (had 40 thousand when I got it), besides maintenance, only changed one IWE due to vacuum leak, changed fpdm due to plastic cracked, yea the phasers rattled some and the manifold leaked some but o well it had 92,000 miles on it and could still break the tires loose, still took abuse with me driving it hard (just recently traded it) on a 5.0 because I got a good deal on trade and could afford a new truck or I would have kept it until it blew up. My cousins truck has over 100,000 (06 fx4) and still runs strong, also my uncle has a 2010 5.4 fx4 (bought new) and it runs good.
