Just bought a 2004 5.4 lariat. got it running but has a miss. pulled the codes and got p0021 and p0345 which from research are related to the drivers phaser. swapped over the vct solenoids and cam position sensors from my good running 06. these had no change on the operation. what did help was disconnecting the position sensor on either side. this made it run much better, not perfect but alot better.

Today I removed the valve covers and front cover, lots of sludge and crap was on every cover but that was no surprise after removing the solenoids and sensors.

but here is where im confused according to the diagram this dot should be at 6:00 but it more like 8:00:


do you think this could be my issue? my only thought is being out by that much how would the truck even run?
