Lifting front end and upper control arm angles.. Question

I put in 4wd coil overs in my 2wd. When comparing my coil overs next to the new ones, they were about half an inch longer. I ended up getting about 1.5 inches of lift in the front.

I also replaced my UCA on both sides. My question is, with the longer shock, the UCA's are definitely angled down way more than before. Am I going to have upper ball joint issues? I know some of you lift your front end a lot more than that.

Got an alignment done as well. It was barely off, just slightly toed in.

Gotta say, with new coil overs and upper ball joints, the front end is way tighter. I never realized how sloppy it was before.

If its around 1.5" your fine, it's when you try to go over 2-2.5" you'll start to have problems.

Thanks, it's definitely no more than 1.5". The UCA angle is just much lower. Still plenty of room for the coil spring, but I just am not used to seeing it at such a steep angle.

That said, the truck stance looks way better. I have 4x4 blocks in the rear so before raising the front it had like 3 or 4 inches of rake.

I am at the limit I would want to go with coils at 2.5" on my 4x4. My upper ball joints were trashed by 90K miles. To put that in perspective, I have a neighbor with a dead stock '08 FX-4 SuperCrew with a 6.5 foot bed. He had to have is UCAs done at 85K at it was clunking.

I suspect the angle of the joint puts stress on it, but then again, the lack of grease fittings on the OEM joint I think is WAY worse than level kit / coil angles. Again I think the limit is 2.5". I have seen a few 3" level kit jobs out there, just not sure that works well...

Thanks for the info. My oem upper ball joints were totally shot at 64k with the original coil overs. Both ball joints were insanely sloppy. To be honest, I never go off road or even dirt roads. I'd say 90% of my miles are highway, too.

I did replace them with the moog grease able version. Sounds like I shouldn't really run into issues.

How often do you grease them (yes I did grease them after I put them on). Some say every oil change, some say once a year. I know over greasing can break the seal. Something like twice a year seem sufficient?

I check mine every 10k or so. You can squeeze on the boot to see if they're low on grease. You shouldn't need to grease them after install, they come pre-greased already.

They do come pre greased, but none of the grease was in the boot. I was told by many to grease them.

Hmm, mine were pretty much full when I changed mine, but that was like a year ago too, so maybe things have changed.
