Bilstein 5100 newbie question!!
I think I'm going to buy Bilstein 5100s for my 2005 FX4. I'm going to have a friend (who has WAY more knowledge than me) help install them. I'm assuming they are pretty straight forward. Do we need a spring compressor for the install? Anyone have the cheapest place to buy them? Looks like Summit Racing on eBay is right there with the best price. Thanks!!
Awesome shocks! Good choice! I've used them on every truck I've owned for 20 years. The rears can be installed in just a few minutes. The front strut/coil spring assembly will need to be removed from the truck. Then you can use a spring compressor on it while the struts are swapped.
I'm not a mechanic. I just watched while my mechanic friend installed my Bilsteins a few years back. LOL

Try- shockwarehouse.com You can also get some coupon codes for them over at Retailmenot.com that usually work for 5% off or free shipping etc.
They are pricey but will last and perform perfectly as long as you own your truck. I have put 100K plus miles on a truck in the past and removed my Bilstiens and reinstalled the stockers before I traded the truck.
Put them on my new truck. These seem to run forever. LOL

i just got mine put on an 07 fx4 last month and love them. just remember if you are going to get it on any setting other than the lowest (mine are at the highest setting and it levels the truck out great) to get an alignment done once you finish installing them. I ordered all of mine from 4wheelparts.
We are installing them tomorrow morning!! I think my AS level has done a number on my drivers side ball joint. After I installed the level I have been able to keep it aligned. I'm am definitely going to keep the level look with the Bilsteins. Hopefully we don't run into any other problems!!
