Tow Hook Question.

So ive searched and haven't found anything....has anyone added tow hooks to a 2wd truck?

I have an 06 mark lt and want to add them. I already know i would need to replace the lower valance but the mounting holes are there in the frame right?

Yes, you can mount them on a 2WD. The holes are there, but you'll have to cut your lower valence for them to slide through. I believe it's a little difficult to get the backing plate/bracket for them into the channel, but it's been done a number of times.

Yes, it can be done. Instead of buying a new valence, just cut your current valence. You will need to either buy or make the plate that goes into the frame rail so that you can bolt the tow hooks on. You could probably get the plate from a company that makes brush guards/bull bars.

Thanks guys i peeked under the truck today and saw the holes in the frame.

So theres an additional metal plate that goes inside the frame rail? Im looking on ebay at used hooks and all i see are the hooks themselves with the bolts and a metal piece which i assume is that plate.

I thought about hacking at the valence with a dremel, but i dont have that steady of a hand and i was planning on getting a respray anyways.

The metal piece in the picture is probably the "plate" mentioned earlier. It's a piece of flat steel with two nuts welded to it that you place on the inside of the frame rail to bolt the tow hook to. Its not that hard to trim the valence, just go slow and it should come out fine.

This is my 2010 XLT 2wd with chrome tow hooks. The front lower valance had to be changed when installing tow hooks.

By the way, for anyone who might be wondering, here is what that backing plate looks like -- you'll need one of these for each hook:

Or just some bolts, washers, and nuts. Don't see much use in the plate other than it's a captured nut. If you cut your valence make a cardboard template before hacking into the valence. Will also make sure you get symmetrical openings and not have one larger/shaped more than the other.
