Hey guys Just got my truck back from the dealer (stealership) for what i believe is a faulty check valve in the fuel pump. What the truck is doing is it will do a random extended crank will trying to start the truck on a hot start. The truck will do this 1 out of 10 drive cycles. I have hooked up a OBDII hand held code reader to test the fuel pressure: Turn the key ON the truck has 40psi, and when you turn the key to for a successfull start it will spike to 60-75psi HOWEVER on a extended crank the fuel pressure will only spike to 60-75psi during the extended crank which may last up to 3 seconds. I tried a fuel pressure regulator, that didnt help. ALSO, when i went to change the regulator on the fuel rail, there was NO pressure build up AND i didnt depressureize the system. Shouldnt I have taken a gasoline shower?? I thought i would add that, it may be relevant information. Fuel Filter is changed every 6 months with Motorcraft Products. Mass Air Flow has been cleaned. I also changed my FPDM and that didnt help HOWEVER it did improve throttle response. One day, i hooked up my code reader to check fuel pressure and with the key on, 40psi strong. This was at home so i let the truck just sit for a hour while i do housework. After about a hour, i checked the PSI and it was reading under 30psi. Is that a normal drop in PSI? The only modifications to this truck are a AirAid intake and a Magnaflow catback all done by the dealer upon purchase when the truck was new. Now here is one more question, with my AirAid intake, around 3000 to 3500 rpm at mid throttle i will get a slight surge feeling. Now, Ford INSISTS on my truck not running lean and thats why FORD chooses AirAid for there aftermarket department cuz AirAid products will not require a tune. Is this true folks? I have checked the MAF readings while driving the truck with and without the AirAid and dang are the numbers LEAN......lean compared to alot of other vehicles anyway. Well given all my symptoms, what do you guys think??

 

Could be the air intake. I was going to put one on my truck, but was informed that it would not function properly without a tune. I don't want to tune my truck, so I left it stock. I think the psi drop is normal after the truck has been sitting for awhile.

 

Also for those who wonder how come the dealership hasnt stuck a fuel pump in this truck is because they cant duplicate the problem. Man who hasnt heard that one before!!!! Anyway, my truck is still under the 5yr/60k AND the fuel pump is covered. What upset me with Ford is that THEY TOLD ME that they expect that the fuel pump is going out but they cant prove it!!! Well hell i told them everything i have told you guys on here and they STILL cant figure it out?! I almost wanna sabotage my own dang fuel pump somehow!!!!

 

yeah i almost wanna sell it because as bad as it feels to say this after the $400 spent on the AIrAid, it doesnt really help the power that much......sounds great but thats it

 

Similar thing happened to me on my 08'. The first dealer could not find the prob. so they said just keep driving it, even though my fuel economy dropped to 9-10mpg and there was a loud noise coming from the engine. The truck still has the original factory warranty and an extended 100,000 mile warranty. "Ford won't let us throw parts at it" they said. Took it to another dealer and the problem was solved (eventually. . . at least they were motivated to fix the truck). You might have to go to a few different places before you get the problem fixed. Stay away from the fancy places. Small town dealers are the best. They don't have as many vehicles going through their service departments, and it seems like they take more time to diagnose the issues. Glad I have the warranty though. I will never buy a vehicle without a warranty ever again. Fixing all of my truck’s issues that it was having the past few months would have cost me about $5,000 parts and labor.
