trans is jumping in and out of overdrive

Hey guys not sure what is going on with my truck it is a 2006 5.4 2 wheel
drive the trans seams to jump in and out of overdrive on mild acceleration really bad going up hill. Turn od off and did not seem to have this problem.an yesterday went to pass a slow moving car and the truck almost did not make it around it seemed to have trouble finding the right gear. What could this be nothing good I'm sure. Any help or advice would be most appreciated thanks in advance.

Sounds like a low grade misfire. How many miles on it and have the spark plugs ever been changed?

A mild misfire will do that like already said.

Also, I recall some taking their truck in fore a reflash and that curing it.

My '07 5.4 FX4 did it some when I first got it .... more than I liked anyway .... but the SuperChips FlashPaq cured it.

Low grade misfires won't throw a code, it has to be a hard miss.
