Underpower truck..... :(

I have a 06 XLT with 4.6 engine.

I am looking for an advice on what to do to improve HP.

I have read about the K&N and ppl said that can increase some HP, also I read that i guy change the throttle to increase HP, I also looked at the superchargers and turbo kits, I dont do racing or anything like that, I just feel my truck with not enough power.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Thanks

I have an 06 4.6 as well. I have an xcal 3 with tunes from 5 Star and VMP. The programmer made a BIG difference in the driveability of the truck. Mine is a 4X4 Screw with 3.73's btw

tuner and gears initially, forced induction if you want ever moar powa. you wont even feel the power gains from an intake and it can actually decrease power without a tune.

What body style and drivetrain? If you're running a crew cab with 4WD and 3.55 gears, then yeah I can see the 4.6 being a dog.

On your drivers door sticker there will be an axle code. Like 19 or H9 something like that. Post it up here and we can tell you what your gear ratio is and if you have a limited slip or not.

You have 3.55 non limited slip. No wonder you feel like the truck is a turd. going to 4.10's may benefit you greatly

Yes, this ^... Before I bought my 4.6 truck, I drove the exact same model as mine but with 3.55 gears and it was a turd. Then I saw my truck and was going to pass on it until I drove it. Mine has the B6 rear end, 3.73 gears and the power was way better than the other truck with 3.55. The Edge made a good performance gain on my truck and I say it's worth the money.

3.55 gears means the driveshaft turns 3.55 times for the axle's one turn and torque is multiplied by a factor of 3.55.

4.10 gears speed up the driveshaft to 4.10 turns for every axle revolution and multiply torque by a factor of 4.10.

4.10/3.55=1.1549 which means a 15-1/2 percent increase in torque multiplication.

If it's 4WD you'll need a 4.10 ring and pinion set for both front and rear axles, gaskets, lube, the tools and know how to do the swap, not something for the new mechanic.

What size tires are on your truck now?

Parts:
Ring and Pinion Assembly

Labor:
4 Hours or $350+ for a qualified shop to do it.

You can get them here:

I highly recommend Motive or Richmond gears.

I'm running Motive 4.10s with a limited slip. I went from 3.31's to 4.10's my God... what a difference; it was like the truck was made for 4.10's.

Although, my speedo is off... but I've been driving long enough, and I know how fast I'm going by landmarks and common sense. You can fix that by doing one of two things:

1. Get a tuner/programmer.
2. Have your PCM re-flashed from a competent Ford service center.
