Steering Stabilizer
Steering Stabilizer
Did any of you put steering stabilizers on your (Non-Lifted) F-150s? I have been looking around and I cannot find a lot of options. The roads where I live are really bad, and I was thinking a stabilizer could help with the steering. I have the 20” wheels on my truck and when I go over a bump/pot-hole if feels like they move in all directions like a shopping cart. I have the max-tow package with the stiffer shocks, so maybe that plays a factor, but it just feels like I have to fight the road all of the time. I never noticed this in my other trucks; however, most of them had a solid front axle. I guess the steering on my F-150 is almost too responsive. . . . . I don’t know, it’s hard to describe. Does anyone else notice this?
Mine is a '07 FX4 with stock 20s as well and while it drove good, I think it was maybe like yours some. I performed an alignment (after I lowered it 2") and set toe in and camber to specs and added a little caster so it's up about 6 degrees and it drives much better .... I think the extra caster helped a lot.
Might pay you to talk it over with an alignment guy?

At 31,000 miles? The tires on it need to be replaced, how much of an effect do you think they could have?
I completely replaced the front end on my mother's Jeep Compass this past summer and did the alignment myself. While it drove good, every time I'd hit a pot hole it did the same exact thing. It felt like a shopping cart... bear in mind it has 18" rims, but close enough on such a small car. I took it to a professional shop that had a Hunter HawkEye alignment system, and man, did it make all the difference!
Again, I aligned it myself good enough for a hand alignment, but a computerized one just makes it drive much better.

Worn tires, especially if its uneven wear can greatly increase the wear on other things and make the alignment screwy. Combine that with bad roads, and yea it's definitely possible for the parts to be worn by now.
