I have been having quite a few problems lately with my 2004 F-150. It started last year with the dreaded P0022 and the truck stalling on idle. I have changed Both VCT's, Cam Sensors, Timing Chains, Tensioners and Guides. Now it throws codes showing that every cylinder on the left side is misfiring. I get codes P0022, P0300, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, P2198, P0171 and P0316. Every search I conduct on the internet says the cam phaser is bad. But here's the kicker. This is an intermittent problem. It will run fine for a few days then start misfiring. It will do that for a short period of time like 10-15 miles then clear up and run normal again. Could this still be the cam phaser?? I would expect if that was the case it would be a constant problem. Thanks for any advice.

 

I am having the exact same issue except but with bank 1. Runs fine then hardly at all?!

I'm replacing guides, chains, tensioners etc since they have 138k on them. Both phasers have been updated and I cleaned/swapped the VCT solenoids. How long ago did you change all your guides, etc?

 

I changed the chains, guides and tensioners about two months ago. It didn't help any of the problems i was having. But it didn't hurt either considering the guides were wore out and broke and one chain was so loose it looked like it could have jumped off at anytime. Wish I had changed the cam phasers when I had the front cover off.

A few other things I have done recently include:
Plug change 40k ago with Motorcraft plugs
Fuel filter about three weeks ago
Oil change two weeks ago. I switched to Mobil 1, 5w-20 full synthetic from Motorcraft 5w-20. Still use Motorcraft filter.
