tpms on a 2008

i bought some new wheels for my 2011. my kid snatched the ones that came off, the lariat chrome ones and put them on his 08. he immediately got the tpms icon illuminated. we did the step on the brake and cycle the key and was able to get into the relearn mode but was unable to get them to sync. he took the truck to the dealer and they say that the sensors are not compatible with the truck. thats ford 2011 wheels on an 08 truck. in reading it sounds like they all work at the same frequency and there is no difference. is this true? is the dealer wrong?

There is a different sensor Part# between the 08 and the 11, going by that, I would say that the dealer is correct in that the two are not compatible with each other.

That is correct. There was a big change in the sensors from 08 to 09. However you can get aftermarket sensors that attach to the valve stem that will work on the 08. Either that or get new bands and attach the sensors from the old 08 wheels to the 11 wheels.
