Humming sound coming from front end
I drove a couple hundred miles without issue. On the return trip back, I noticed a slight humming sound from the front. It's most noticeable from about 45 to 60. Almost sounds like you're driving a vehicle with studded tires or its revving really high.
I have a 5 speed, the sound is still there if I put it in neutral so I know it's front end related.
When I had a bearing go bad, it was more of a scraping sound. It didn't hum at all. Also, it still makes this sound when applying the brakes until I reach a lower speed.
Any ideas?

i take it your noise goes away at a dead stop? 4x2 or 4x4? from what you have explained it is probably a wheel bearing noise. they can hum when they start to go bad. jack the front end up and grab the top and bottom and push / pull to see if you have any bearing play. you won't always have play in your bearings to have the sound though.

So I just jacked the truck up, there is some side to play on the drivers side. The passenger side does not do that. Does this sound like a bad bearing? This same hub, bearing and rotor were just replaced exactly a year ago too.
how are you checking the play? make sure you are pushing the top of the tire in towards the truck then pull it back out. if your pushing at the 3 and 9 o clock positions it could be a tie rod end play. but that don't have a humming noise like that, but it could cause extra stress on your bearings. from what you have described you have a failed bearing. make sure you get your truck aligned.

im pretty sure i have the same hum you are talking about. I get mine while cruising around the speeds you referred to. When i give it slight amount of gas, 1200-1500 rpm i hear the hum. If i give it more gas all i can hear is the engine noise. I have not been paying attention to the hum. i thought it was normal

So, it was in fact the bearing. I had that SAME bearing replaced less than a year ago (only 10k miles since). The part has a two year warranty but they're charging me $255 for labor AGAIN! I paid that labor last time, and now because they installed a faulty bearing, I have to pay again. The service guy even told me they had to have installed a faulty bearing.
Anyway, called ford CRC and opened a complaint and they're working on reimbursing me.
