HELP!!!! PLEASE!!! ABS Problem

04 F150, 4.6 2 wheel drive

Getting no response in my other posting, thought I'd try a new heading.

Just put new brake pads and rotors on all four wheels. Drove it and a noise from ABS pump (evidently), and brakes pulsed. Could feel it in pedal. Drove about a mile and the ABS light came on and the brakes worked fine. Every time it stops and is re-started, the same thing happens. When the ABS light comes on, everything works fine. When the light is off, I hear the pulsing sound and the pedal pulses. Evidently I did something to an anti-lock sensor. What did I do? How to find it? HELP!!!

Sounds like you might of damaged a sensor or the wire itself, check those out first.

Wow, please don't repost about the same subject. It can lead to confusing responses and wasted time for you. You probably did not get a response to your earlier thread because no one had any good ideas for you. Sometimes, you have to be patient.

I've deleted the other thread.

Happened to me ... one of the pulse rings was wrong on the rotor. Count the teeth on it and compare to the originals.

Thanks, Truckguy,
I did check the rings and they had 54 just like the originals. Also checked the wires and cleaned the sensors.
Other ideas?

Well, I think I found the problem.

I removed both front wheels and re-inspected the rotors and rings. The ring on the right side was slightly warped, but only varied about 1/16 inch. I think that's OK for the magnetic sensor. But, I inspected the left side and found the ring warped with about 1/4 inch variance in one place. This is bound to be enough to cause a fasle reading, right?

I plan to go back to the Ford dealer and get another rotor Monday. Guess you never assume anything with new parts.....even when from the dealer.

Could someone post pics of what they are talking about. I had the same issue. Now my light is on all the time. No ABS. No idea what to look for.

If you are 2wd, there is a ring on the backside of the rotor that has cogs on it. That is what triggers the ABS to kick on IIRC. If any tooth is messed up or there is the wrong amount of them, it messes with the tolerance and triggers the light since it is not to spec. It causes a false ABS reading.

Just an google image for reference:
