Radio Swap???
Radio Swap???
The radio in my truck (2008 w/Sirius) has been going out slowly over the last 6 months. It started with one channel going out occasionally. Now the audio is completely out when it's cold in the morning and one channel comes back in the afternoon when the cab warms up.
So now I'd just like to swap in a radio from a newer model truck, anybody know will work?
Can I make a nav unit work?

You could get a factory NAV, but it might have to reprogrammed ($100) for your truck's options if it came out of a vehicle with a different setup. (audiophile, steering wheel controls, etc). If I were you, I'd just go get an aftermarket Pioneer NAV unit which will be cheaper and more full-featured than the factory system (which was also made by Pioneer).
Yeah, I know I can go aftermarket but I was trying to keep the stock look of the interior. It appears that flea-bay and the like have the used stock nav unit at way more money than aftermarket would yield for a brand new unit.

Now if you are referring to the non-NAV radios, then yes, I agree.
Okay, I'm off the OEM nav unit, way too expensive. So what are my options for a stock unit? I already have a Sat-ready radio, what about Bluetooth? Does that require another module connectd to the radio?

There weren't any bluetooth units for the 04-08 unless you bought the expensive hands-free system for it. Seriously, go get yourself a new/used Pioneer/Kenwood NAV unit. The double-DIN units don't look gaudy or out of place in the truck, have a ton of available features (bluetooth, backup camera ability, larger screen, etc) and will cost you less than the factory units. You really will be selling yourself short by going with the factory units. As a matter of fact, I have the factory NAV (didn't specifically care about it) and have used the NAV function probably 3 times in 5 years. It's a pain to use over a stand-alone GPS or even a smartphone.
Beg to differ. The same NAV unit was put in vehicles from Lincoln, Mercury, and Ford, and the home screen design/color, options in each car, etc were all different. Some had voice-activated controls, etc, and those functions can be turned on/off during programming. You are right in that it has nothing to do with the PCM, as the two units don't interact.
