Dealership has me worried.....
Dealership has me worried.....
About 4 months ago someone ran a red-light and t-boned the back of my truck doing around 60 mph. Truck was towed to Ford and they replaced the whole axel, brake rotor, rim etc.. 2 weeks ago from a dead stop at a light I started to accelerate and there was a very loud 2 sec screetch from the back area of the truck. It don't happen all the time. I was able to take it in today and the tech manager and I drove it around for awhile. After about 10 min of stop and go's it happened a couple times. BTW, it only happens on the initial take off , at about the same mph (5-15) Manager said it could be a few things ,but the truck has 85k, could be the tranny and to bring it back in the morning to have everything tested
Truck has been well taken care of , has plenty of power , all tranny maintainence has been done at 40k and 75k including pan drop w\ filter with a magnafine filter installed at 75K. Does this sound like a tranny problem with a 2 sec screetching from take off ? I did check the fludid when i got home and its right in the middle of the hatch marks and the color looks good . Anyone have a similar problem ? Thanks

Here's the update on my truck. Shop manager called today and said they swapped the whole rear end out with a very low milage one and everything was great when they had it on the lift turning the tires. They he tells me after a bit they heard the chirp again, when the truck starts out from a stop, WTF!!!! So, there is 2 problems per the dealer. He goes on to tell me it MIGHT be covered under the claim, but we need to get your authorization in case it's not. Then i get to pay he mentions $1800 and that's a rough estimate if insurance don't pick it up the tab.
So , now I'm pissed! They have had the shop managers , their tranny guy etc,. look at it and now it's a tranny issue. They're claiming that it happens when the truck is in-between gears off the line and it's MAYBE the clutch assembly in the trans. They've had sensors ,listening things to pin point the problem and they basicall are telling me that they have never had that type of "chirp" before. It pulls hard , I do take very good care of it. What should I do ? Thanks guys

Mine does it too, not in accident though. I have 84k on it 4.6l 2wd. I was screwing around in my garage and power braked it. as soon as i gave it gas it screeched like HELL, no it wasn't tires they never had a chance to break loose. I hear it once in a while from a dead stop.
I did ask the shop manager if he has ever had a similiar tranny problem from that ttype of accident and he said no. He did tell me that that adjuster would ask the same question and that they 're an honest facility and say "no".
The truck pulls great, all maintainence done! I am wondering if I should treat it as " if it aint broke don't fix it" . Whatcha guys think ?

Update: Called the insurance co. ( allstate) and spoke with my original claims adjuster. Explained all the details and he was very quick to call his manager to get an o.k. for the "teardown" on the tranny at their cost. They mentioned they will pay for everything when their special adjuster goes out and can determine that it was a result of the accident ( some thing shifted, bent misaligned etc). Now the other side of that is if they determine its wear and tear, I will only pay for the build up of the rebuilt tranny . Manager mentioned shop labor would be 13.1 hrs and 1\2 of that is my cost ( about 1100.00) if the insurance co don't feel it was accident related. Really hope the insurance guy is open minded and writes it off, I'll know in a couple days.

Great news!!! Ford called me today and said the noise was from the accident. They said the impact pushed the drive-shaft into the tranny and there is a collar with snap rings at the end of it. I gues the snap rings or collar left metal pieces in the drum of the transmission and ever so often a piece would get stuck and screetch. So insurance company will fully cover the rebuild
Thanks to all to listen and helped out
