Don't bother with aftermarket bulbs, especially ones with higher than stock wattage. They can burn up the wiring harness by drawing too much power. You can also melt housings with them. The Silverstars are usually well regarded, but they generally last a year or two at the most before needing to be replaced. If you really need better light, there are two options: do a projector retrofit in order to use HID bulbs, or add aux lights like KC's, PIAAs, or LightForce.

OP- We have a dedicated Lighting & Illumination forum that has a BUNCH of stickies that would've answered your questions.

If you don't want HIDs, the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra H13 or Philips Xtreme Power H13s are going to be your best bet. They both trade useful life for power, so don't expect them to last longer than two years (one is average).

If you want to light up 6+ lanes of traffic with a crisp, smooth light (see my siggy below), check out www.theretrofitsource.com for some cool retrofit packages.

The LED light bars are off-road use only. They can put out 10,000+ lumens of light, but don't plan to use them in the city.

You say you have a non-Heritage 2004 F-150 with Fog Lights. That should mean you have the rectangular fogs that only came on 2004-2005 trucks. You can easily swap out your fog light bulbs for 9005 (pick your brand) bulbs and double your light output.

As for melting housings, you won't due to the size of your housings. (Round fogs are a totally different animal.) And as for fried wiring, as long as you don't go crazy (over about 55 watts), you'll be just fine. I ran Silverstar Ultras in my 2005 fogs the whole time I owned it and never had an issue. And trust me, the increase in usefull lighting output is staggering and doesn't bother oncoming drivers due to the well defined beam pattern - if they're aimed properly.
