I have a 2003 F150 5.4L offroad model with about 130K or so. Runs like a watch. The only issue I know of is the spark plugs (which last for 100k) can break off in the head when attempting to replace them. The solution for this?
1: Let the Ford dealer do the plugs
2: Call around to various Ford dealers and ask the service manager about this job and how they do it.
3: I finally found one that told me, that when they get the truck and bring it in, they pull the coils, spray penetrating oil into the holes and let the truck sit like that overnight. He told me their success rate was high. They broke no plugs and the job cost North of $500. I thought this was a good deal VS the alternative.
4: I think this was not an issue with the year you are looking at.

It's the 2004 through mid-2008 5.4 3 valve engines that have the spark plug breakage issues. Your 2003 is a 2 valve, which has the spark plug loosening and blowout issue. In mid-2008, they redesigned the heads for a fully threaded 1 piece spark plug. However, it still has the questionable VCT system.

Has this site become "Self Aware"? Hmmm... making it's own decisions? It's Cyberdyne Systems all over again. Just when I thought I was out the pull me back in.
