no 17s?

Maybe its just me but i only see 18s and 20s on 04-08s. Is there a downside to 17s or is 18 the min for are trucks? reason im asking is i need new tires n im gettin new rims for my 07 n tires for 17s are cheaper.

17s were the standard size for my '07 STX. They allow for a greater load and tow package than 18s. My owner's manual states 500lbs more with the 17s. They will give a better ride since the tire will have more rubber between the wheel and the road. Here's what mine look like.

I am running Toyo Open Country M/Ts, 34X11.50R17...

^ same as above on my '08 STX (265/70r17). Smoother ride, and easier on the wallet come time to buy new tires.

17"s come on the lower end models standard, 18" doesn't show up until the FX4 trim, which were standard in 2005. 2004 had 17"s standard but the 18" optional.

As for aftermarket choice, 17s and 18s look dinky. 20" fit just right if you don't tow and just use your truck for fun.

Anyone have any clearance issues with the rotors, etc with the 17's? I've got an 05 FX4 and am looking at 17'' wheels to help cut down on costs of tires vs. the cost with 18's.

No issues with brakes with 17's since all F150's have the same brakes. My '06 has 17's with 235/75/17 tires. Kinda small for a 4x4 but thats what its supposed to have on it.

My '05 STX is also running 285/70/17's. Running Nitto Crosstek HD's and the ride is so smooth that I have to watch myself or use cruise control to avoid a speeding ticket.

My '06 STX 4x4 came with 255/70/17 and I went to 265/70/17 when I couldn't find my new tires in the 255 size. I was wandering a Ford dealer the other day and saw the STX 4x4s now come with 235/70/17. I'm thinking they are either cheaping out (expecting us to be replacing the tires with what we want anyway) with the smaller tires, or trying to improve mileage claims by having less rolling resistance. Or both.

I have a 05 XLT 4x4 and it came with the 255/70/17. Whwn I put new tires on it I went to the 265's. there are a lot more options in that width over the 255.

On the early 2004s, there were some with a smaller caliper. There were some wheels for them that would not fit on the trucks with the larger caliper. You seldom see them anymore, but there are some out there.
