08 5.4L problems

Hey fellas, I have been having some problems with my F150 lately, about a week ago I was driving and went to put in reverse and the RPMs dropped and it felt like it was gonna stall, put it in neutral and gave it some gas and it corrected it self. Just the other day I was pulling my travel trailer down the highway and when I went to stop and put it in reverse it started acting like it was going to stall again. Just yesterday after pulling the travel trailer home I pulled into the yard and slowed down and it started a rough idle again
About a month ago I changed the oil myself and went with mobil 1 10W-30. I have searched through forums and can only come up with it may be the VCT solenoids, TB sensor, Cam phasers. Does any have any other solutions on what it may be? The engine light hasn't come on either. PLEASE HELP

That is the WRONG oil to use in a 5.4 3V. Get that thick stuff out of there and use Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend and a Motorcraft filter.

so would my VCT solenoids be clogged causing the idle problems and wanting to stall?

04+ doesn't have an IAC, it's electronic throttle. You could have a sticky/dirty throttle body.

Ooooops! :o I was just thinking aloud on the keyboard of when I had the simular problem .... It was either a '98 or a '00 CVPI .... not my '06. I hadn't given IACs much of a thought since .... forgot my '07 Trk ddn't have one (nor did my '06 CVPI) .... but yeah, now that you mention it .... I knew better.

Hey bud this happened to me when I was pulling a boat from Nashville to Guntersville. Turned out to be a coil on one of my spark plugs had gone bad. I would suggest changing all your plugs and you should be good to go!!

My truck had the same issue

Would do it randomly sometimes at idle, i have powertrain warranty until 2013 though, so i had brought it back to the ford dealer. ( I bought this truck 3 weeks ago.. from the same ford dealer) and i had to prove it to one of the techs. Now its a week a half later, they replaced the phasers, solenoids.. etc. and it was still doing it during the running test.

Now They decided to just put a new 5.4l into the truck.

If you have warranty still, just bring it in.

RPM dropping at stops is going to be a bad COP or plug. Ebay has plugs for $80-$120 vs Ford at $80 a piece. Global COPS is what most guys run. I switched mine when I had a COP going bad at around 70K miles. No issues since.

Clean your throttle body as well.
