Whoever said you NEED 4x4 to offroad
Just got back from an offroading trip out at Richloam FL and my 2wd impressed me with the mud I was able to handle 
we had an 06 f250 4x4 on 38s, a 73 bronco 4x4 on 38s, a 91 nissan 4x4 on 31s (that little truck is impossable to get stuck), a 87 ranger 4x4 on stockers, and my 04 f150 2wd made it through everything they did. It's a 5.4 with a leveling kit and 4.56ls gears turning 33in nitto terra graps. I was pushing through mud close to a foot over my frame and never once got stuck. All about throttle control and knowing how to hit the hole. With the 2wd its mostly momentum that is getting you across so you need to hit it with some speed, too much and you break your truck, not enough your stuck. Once your in it throttle control is everything, too much throttle and you'll dig, too little and you'll lose your momentum. I just fetherd the throttle maintaining grip and keeping the momentum (same for the suger sand) Also dont be afrade to walk the trail and get a closer look at the hole befor you hit it, what looks easy from behind the wheel could end up being deeper then you think. I had also hooked up a ****** strap to my front crossmember befor hand and just rapped it around my bull bar, would SUCK to have to get under there to do it in the mud hole. Dont be afrade to have a little fun offroad just because you dont have 4x4, your 2wd can suprise you 
P.S. Dont let your buddies ride on your tool box going through a big hole, they could end up 5ft in the air and landing on eachother in the bed of your truck LMFAO

Yep .... I've told many guys that you don't have to have 4WD to use a mild lift and some on/off road tires and a locker to have fun off road if that's what you want.

Ive personaly takin countless trips out at richloam and never had any big issues, certianly nothing to cause me to bitch about my 2wd lol this is just the first time Ive went with trucks that could pull me out if needed so I got braver and seen what I can actualy do. My trucks been stuck twice out there, both times when I had friends driving. Once when my buddie was backing down a sugarsand trail and ended up backing over a log so wide it was scrubing my frame, and the second time my buddy took off with my truck and ended up teatering in a ditch when he tried to turn around. My limited slip is enough of a locker for me and if you do end up with just spinning one tire you can usualy activate the ebrake half way to kick in the ls. Most of the 4x4 guys I know leave their trucks in 2wd and only use the 4x4 to get out once they get stuck anyway.

We had a 19 inch snowstorm here 2 winters ago - and the city does not plow the side streets. I had to get my truck out from under my deck, down my driveway, and almost a whole block down an alley. I have 2wd with LS, but NO weight in the bed. I threw a set of cable chains on it and got it out - took about 20 minutes, backing and filling all the way down the alley. Nobody else got down the alley for a few days except my neighbor with an old lifted 4wd 4Runner with bigass AT tires.
Once I was out of the alley, I found the first cleared parking lot and pulled the chains off and had no problems getting around the city - and there were a LOT of stuck vehicles. I will say that the Michelin X-Ice tires helped considerably.
