Acceleration hesitates at 35mph or more

When im driving at 35mph or more and i go to speed up, there is a hesitation in the motor. does anyone have tips on how to help get rid of that? I have an '04 150 with the 5.4. I have a K&N cold air intake. Any suggestions would be great. thanks

How many miles are on the truck? Maybe clean the throttle body out. It's a pretty quick thing to try out first, and it only costs whatever a can of throttle body spray cleaner costs, maybe $7

For starters - Ditch the intake and replace it withe the factory unit - at least until you get a safe and corrected tune for it. For all you know it's the Root cause, or could be masking another underlying issue.

'04 5.43V's already tend lean from the factory - you are just making it (far) worse. Enormous amount of info on that, right here - all you gotta do is use Search.

http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...=226&parent=66

Excerpted from the above website:

"We can tune for different cold air intakes on 05+ Mustangs and 04+ F150s. Any aftermarket intake that flows well and puts the slot-style MAF sensor into a larger less restrictive housing is going to REQUIRE a tune for the vehicle to run properly. Intakes that do not require a tune are often just as restrictive as stock and do not result in large power gains."

So return the intake to stock, retest and then report back.

BTW - any ETC throttle lag will also be completely addressed via the custom tuning - this throttle delay from the torque pedal is a well-known 'feature'.

And - by all means perform al the comprehensive PM yer truck requires to run properly. Here's a linky to help with that:

Good luck. Ball's in yer court.

Well here it is (for me):

>BTW - any ETC throttle lag will also be completely addressed via the custom tuning - >this throttle delay from the torque pedal is a well-known 'feature'.

I have this... stomp on throttle, wait (seems like forever) maybe 2 seconds... then it shifts down and hauls ****...

Only a tune will get rid of it eh? If it were carburated I could tune it out... but I wont trade injection for carbs!!

^^^ Yessir, purty much.

In fact, if you choose the right custom tuner fellr and have good rapport with him, you can get the throttle response tailored exactly to yer personal tastes. Some folks like a pedal with a lot of 'gain' for lack of a better term - akin to the initial 'tip-in' response some manufacturers built into their slugs to make customers beleive you actually had some power

"tip-in"... is that where it acts like its going to take off at 100 mph but then doesn't. I hate that! and I've notice, like you said, most have gone to it.. the little 4 cylinder acts like its going to do a 9 sec 1/4 mile, then goes flat and does it 30 sec. I like a reponsive smoooth throttle. And when I step on it.... I want it to bark, not lay there like sleeping dog that needs to wake up! (couldn't find a sleeping dog)

I'll have to figure out who the right tuner fellr is.

Thanks for the list.
I've noticed that the 4x4 transfer hi gear throttle profile is significanlty different than the when the transfer case is in low gear. Much slower reponse profile when its in low.

my truck has had the same problem sometimes, its almost always coming out of turns too. i'll slow down, take the curve, and i'll put down some throttle coming out and the engine will start revving, pause a sec, then keep going. it only happens sometimes though

Thanks for the comments. I put new spark plugs in last fall. It runs great, isn't missing or coughing, just has a very consitent... wait, shift down, then apply throttle by the computer, almost like a stick shift motion, verses instant throttle response.
