Throttle body cleaning
Throttle body cleaning
Well, did it at 47k (as was recommended on here) but I'm pretty sure I wasted my time. I removed the intake and unbolted the throttle body. There was barely anything on the inside. I cleaned it with a rag and throttle body cleaner. I was gonna do the maf, but after seeing how clean the TB was I decided it would just be a waste of time.
So, my question is, how often should I even bother cleaning it? With 47k miles and my TB barely even having the slightest coating, I don't think I'll be going back in for a while.
I use oem air filters and change them yearly.

Cleaning it was recommend here. Also my service tech at my local Ford dealer said this "While Ford doesn't recommend it, I'd say go for it and just add it as part of your routine maintenance in the future."
Cleaning the MAF is totally different from cleaning the trottle body. I clean my MAF aboout every 20,000 to 30,000. It collects dust, etc. The throttle body, about every 100,000 .

I'm a little OCD and clean both the maf and tb every 20k with the appropiate cleaners.....
with the 2006 f150 I also changed the fuel filter too at the same time....

If the trottle body gets too dirty the engine will die and go into fail safe. It gives you the code that the TAC is possibly bad. It isn't, it's just a dirty TB. I learned the hard way at about 102,000 miles. Truck died in traffic as I was negotiating a corner.
