Intake with Growl?!

I'm in the market for a new intake and wanted to check in with fellow F150 members as to what intake is preferred for our trucks?
I'm on the fence with AEM & Volant. Which of the two is the performer?
Also would the AEM be louder since it utilizes aluminum properties?
I'm assuming that plastic would absorb the sound more.
I'm really looking for that pissed off growling sound too!

I've never heard an intake on our trucks just on a buddies Hemi and that thing growls just as loud as an exhaust set up it seems. (of which he doesn't have)
Just Rude sounding! Do we even get any growl with an intake set up?

Currently I'm running a custom 87 performance tune from Gryphon so I know I'll have to get a new tune to accommodate the intake.
Anyone know what the turn around time for this would be?
I remember it taking like 4 months just for the tune. Hope it's not like this still or I won't even bother : (

I have a volant and its quite loud. But its a sealed unit meaning filter is in a box with opening. Usually an open element filter will give a louder sound. But louder isn't always better

Also aluminum will absorb more heat causing a hotter air charge. Hotter air charge=less power

Thanks for the reply sampson.
Do you have your truck tuned for the Volant?

Also anyone know what Volant's hp claims are? Is this with or without a tune?

AEM claims 17 horsies.

Thanks for chiming in.
I've been doing some googling and it seems to be half AEM and half Volant.
One of the reasons why I'm checking here. To see which is preferred amongst everyone here. Fit, finish, gains, sound etc.

I have the K&N and it's loud when you step on it.

Have a Edge with canned tune and it's fine

the most economical solution.....

as you already know that your tune will need adjusting....

for the record.....the growl/drone gets really sickening on long trips....

Just checked on PHP's forum and wait time is 4-6 weeks.
I can live with that for the qaulity of tune I will be getting.

88 how many steps are involved in getting my gryphon reprogrammed for the intake
I know it can't be as easy as filling a new form out?
I'm assuming I need to update and download software right?

Only downside is all the steps needed to do this. Wish it was a tad easier.

If its the monochrome gryphon and uses pegasus then no updates will be required...

If its the cs/cts and uses fusion then that flippin update BS is required....

The rest of your questions depend on which programmer you have....

Thank's again for chiming in 88!

I have the monochromatic gryphon that uses the Pegasus software so I guess I lucked out there, nice!

Im going to go with a Volant CAI and PowerCore filter.

I've done tons of research on this and the Volant just has what I'm looking for.

So no way I should run the intake without a tune first?
I don't know if I can wait 6 weeks for the re-tune!?
In performance mod time that's like 6 months!!
