Bed lenghts, what gives

Seen a 04-08 F150 xlt today that was an extended cab with a tiny bed like a super crew would have. I always though what my truck had was the short bed. That lead me to look in the owners manual and i seen three different bed lenghts for the ext cab trucks...what gives? I dont quite get it, were the two smaller beds available on all models and what exactly would i consider my truck then, i was callin it an ext cab short bed until i say this ext cab baby bed

Sorry for the dumb question but the search didnt really help much

On the supercrews you could get the 5.5' bed then the 6.5 was an option in 2006+ I believe. The extended cabs were 8', 6.5' and 5.5'. The 5.5's are rare. There was a beautiful 06 or so Lariat 5.5' ext cab Lariat a few streets over from me. I think he as a 2009+ now.

Or a parking spot. My scab flareside sticks out just a bit at the local mall spots.

There's actually a SCAB 5.5' at my barracks

Yeah, but about a foot worth of my bed sticks out with it! Still, I'm glad I've got at least the 6.5'. The bikes just nicely fit with the tailgate closed

I can see why they offered it - it allowed them to give you an extended cab truck on the same short wheelbase chassis as a regular cab with the 6.5' bed. They had plenty of parts - just use the 5.5' SuperCrew bed. Not everyone *NEEDS* a bed any longer than that and some people prefer the handling of a short wheelbase - and getting more room behind the front seats is a plus.

I've seen a few ext cabs with a 5.5' bed, had to do a double take. I had no idea they offered that configuration either.

Had an '06 scab with the 5.5 bed. Really isn't very useful, I think my mountain bikes just fit wheel to wheel straight in. I thought I'd like it, but grew tired of the small bed.

My '05 SCAB has the 5.5. Still can't close the garage door though
