New 06 FX4, few questions
New 06 FX4, few questions
Just bought a 2006 F150 FX4, silver/DSG extended cab short bed.
This truck has the towing mirrors and to me they look like dumbo ears. Are they easily replaced with the standard mirrors, and can i upgrade to the 09+ F-150 mirrors if there is any differences. Im a Pre-97 truck guy, but i needed something new with low miles, realible and comfy so im pretty green with these fancy new trucks.
Also, id like a black billet grill. I am looking to get a carriage works black bllet grill, will this work with the FX4 grill? I watched a video of an install but it had the homecomb xlt grill. Does the FX4 grill unbolt like the XLT? I dot have the truck here to look at, picking it up Tuesday.
Also, for the hell of it can i retrofit a sliding rear window in place of my solid window? All my trucks have rear slidng windows and although i havent seen a rear slidng window for these the power rear would be the only altnerative i guess.
And lastly, for now...being as my truck is silver/dsg would a black billet grill and harley davidson/black headlights look tacky. Any pics?

I can't answer the grille questions, but here in the South, Abra Auto Body, who does all the work for the local Ford dealerships, quoted me $584 for a manual sliding rear window to replace my current solid one-piece. I would ask your dealership who they use, and get a quote from that company. And yes, some of the '04-'08 FX4s had power back glass, IIRC.
As far as blacked out headlights, yes I think that would look good on your truck. Most trucks that have Dark Shadow Grey on them (either as primary or two-tone color) look vastly better with darker headlamps. It's on my to-do list, as well lol
Enjoy the new truck, and post some pics up once you pick her up

The 09+ mirrors will work, but from what I understand the wiring harness in the mirror is slightly different (same plug, but not all the colored wires match the same spot on the factory harness).
Best bet would be to find the sliding glass at a junkyard if possible from a 2004+ and have it installed. I think it would be very expensive to convert over to a power slider.
(shameless plug) There is a set of mirrors for sale in classifieds.

Not sure where you are in PA, but here is a bargain in Buffalo...

Im not gunna dig to deep into moding the truck yet. Small, simple things until i get back to work. Things are gunna be done cheaper for now
But for now, i plan on some basic things like:
Vent visors, Husky floor liners front n rear, 09+ side emblems, possibly mud flaps, Gotts intake, black headlights, black billet grill and maybe a remote start.
Then comes the goodies like bigger tires, level kit, exhaust, low-profile toolbox, tonneau cover and stereo. Also been eyein up a Cervini's Ram Air hood like the one on my 93...but, thats getting a little much for a mostly "stock" truck.
