Had a little mishap today
There was an existing accident at an intersection I was coming to. It had snowed the night before and the roads were covered in salt. The guy in front of me slams on the brakes and I wasn't able to stop. If I was further back, I would have been ok. I swear my anti-lock brakes started vibrating like normal at first but then it stopped and the tires just slid :-( The other guy had an older early 90's truck with those tank-link metal bumpers. He got just a dent in his bumper and I go this :-( Photos below.
This sucks. I have another car to drive so that's ok, but it just sucks in general.
2004 Lariat. Hardly had any dings or scratches before this. Bummer

The guy that I hit was really nice and was even apologizing to ME. I guess he felt bad for slamming on the brakes and also for seeing how bad mine was damaged while his was hardly noticeable. He offered to give me his insurance info and so on. The cop walked over from the other accident and said it was up to us if we wanted to report it. So we decided to not report it and I'll submit this to my insurance. I think it works out best this way.
At least that's all that happened, although I'd be sick if something like that happened to my truck. It's things like this that make me happy I have a little beater car. Keeps the truck out of the salt and if something like this happens, oh well

... but you'll be better prepared next time as you'll be further back.
But we are all human, it can happen to anyone if timing is right.
Still .... "It Sucks" is right! There are some situations that aniti locks aren't any better than old school brakes .... and none will increase traction. It's just that anti locks release and let the tire regain traction and apply again rather than old school where an unskilled (I just mean unskilled in threashold braking) will often lock the brakes and hold them locked thus loosing steering.
Anti locks main benifit is allowing some steering, and a vehicle with anti locks pulsing can still be steered but often takes furher to stop in some cases. A vehicle with locked wheels slides with no directional control, just vectors and gravity and slopes to direct it.

Dang that stinks!! Looks like $3-4k right there.
When you get it fixed, have them install a King Ranch grill instead of the Lariat.
Thats what I did when I crashed mine a few yrs back. Looks great on the two tone trucks like yours and mine.

It's back already
Can you believe, I dropped it off on Monday and got it back already on Friday? Total damage was $3,600 ($1,600 of that was parts according to the paperwork). I need to get a new horn assembly ($58) because they missed that (one horn is damaged and not working).
The shape may look a little off since I used a really wide angle lens. There's frost on the hood too, so that's what that is.

Sorry it happend.. I had a similar thing happen a bit over a year ago and that is what promted me to dump the 99 Dodge Ram and get the new F150. I had already had the brakes worked on twice in about a year and half. and the last time was just about 3 months before the accident. My brakes worked fine during normal braking but when I would really get on them they would not get anybetter and actually felt like they fadded away. I told the shop to fix them and hey changed the roters wheel cyclinders and pads. said take it easy for a few miles.. well 3 months later I top a steep hill and there is an accident at the intersection at the bottom and cars are backed up "stopped" I had both feet on the brake peddle and both hands under the steerin wheel pulling.. "I aint light either" anyway my brakes never pulsed and the tires never locked and they felt like I might just as well have been using one fooot for normal stopping. I hit the car in front of me and " I was going the speed limit of 40 at the time, it was my fault becasue I could not control the vehicle".. so after I got the truck out of the shop I drove it for a few weeks then traded it at Ford... My new truck has the best brakes I have ever felt!

Damn ..... they done a good job on alignment of the parts too!
That looks absolutely great!
I hit a baby size deer in August, only part needing replacement was bumper and left bumper bracket, they repainted the soft upper bumper cover and it took about same time, $1002.15 and while paint is perfect, they got nothing put back right. I was so pissed, wife said take it back .... but I know from past dealings with shops who have such screwups working that if you show them how to fix what they didn't do right, all they touch is what you show them and only by close looking wil you find the rest of their screw ups.
Thankfully, the guy who does the painting is not the guy who turns wrenches at this shop.
I paid my $50 deductable and went home and found they had not straightened the plate that's welded to the frame to mount the bumper, they used a stack of undersized shims after telling me they'ld straighten it .... and the upper soft bumper cover they bolted back wrong at the tab under the headlight wihich bowed it down and screwed up the lower overslam bumpers and the big bumper bolts that are supposedto be torqued like 87 ft lbs were just hand tight and my bumper was a good 1/2" off to the right. Ray Charles could have done better.
I removed the headlights, bumper and upper cover and reinstalled everything correctly and straighten the frame bracket with a winch and chain to a post. My evening spent redoing it .... but I do like the "no chipped bumper" I have.
