Thumbs up Just a "nice ride" ....

.... and a question!

So ..... Sunday, the 29th, the wife and I decided to take a ride that we had talked about Saturday but didn't because she felt bad. Sunday was absolutely gorgeous, no clouds contrary to what the w-lady said. Wife felt good too.

Temps were cool, but the air was so clear. We loaded up and went through town and I grabbed some coffee and she some snacks, and we (wife unit, our puppy, me, and my Nikon) headed up onto the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Wow .... clearest sky I've seen up there in a long long time. I guess we road about 75 miles on the BRP at 35-45 mph, listening to JohnathanSwartz show on 40s on 4 (it's easy listening) on XM and stopped to take pics at several overlooks, some walks, etc ... and just relax.

Came back via US 460 to 122 to 501. Great supper at Pizza place with the guys (several of my former co-workers) and then I went to Walmart and got a half gallon "Blue Bunny Premium Vanilla" to go with the special cake the wife made for me .... and headed home.

Overall, gas stop to gas stop (start - end) 157 miles, 8.5 gallons, near 18.5 mpg, many photo stops, up hill, down hill, great trip.

I know, you want a pic!

Oh yeah .... my question .....

What would look best as a front "bumper protector" that would protect my new bumper from minor bumps of people in parking lot .... without totally wrecking the looks? Polished Stainless to match the step side bars and Bully Hitch Step would be OK. Maybe a frt reciever and a second Bully Step?

Bully Step would look odd on the front while driving, but would definitely keep your front protected. Great pic...

I'm thinking of doing that, maybe using the wider Bully Bar, maybe just the narrow one like in back .... and redrilling the holes so it sits back further into the reciever and not but a couple inches out front of bumper (I drilled new holes in the rear one and it doesn't stick out as far) ....
.... it's just the "thinking" stage now.

Could put a wider one at both ends?

I've looked at the "Bull Bars" but just not sure it would look right on my truck. Guess I should look closer at them also?

Wish I had Photoshop.

Looks like a good day. We all need to remember to just take a day to enjoy ourselves once in a while.

i do believe a black ranchhand looks great on a red truck, like ours

but i see your lowered, i don't think a bullbar would look too bad

Wow ... ... you mean that's possible?

Thanks
...
... I live just west of the Parkway below 56 & above 60 ... and we have been enjoying it since getting married in 1979 ...
... and before that, since I started driving in 1970 I've been wearing tires out on it as I lived in Lynchburg then. Even on a rainy day, it's a peaceful drive. We drive it in all seasons (though they block it now when just a threat of snow .... grrrrr!) and even on a drissly Fall or Spring day, it's beautiful. We've come home late at night from Roanoke using that BRP just to count the deer and look at the stars or clouds in moonlight.

Only time I wished I was elsewhere was in 1999 or 2000 and we were on the '85 GoldWing and got caught in rain and heavy FoG strting just south of Mt Mitchell and it was so heavy I could not even see the roadway edge far enough ahead to pull off until we got down to Craggy Gardens and it lifted enough to see to get out of the road ..... longest 10-11 miles I have ever spent on/in any vehicle any time.

Fog was like a wall as I went around a curve south of 128 and it was so thick, scared to speed up as you couldn't see and scared to stop in the road as someone would run over us, and I felt like the bike was gonna fall over as I lost my horizon .... never had that happen. We rode 25 mph whole way.

Had a long conversation with the cutest Park Ranger you ever saw there at Craggy Gardens, she was a doll (my wife agreed, cuter than the average bear). Of course, it was totally "professional", one cop to another.

Oh, you noticed?

Maybe look even better than my Bully Step idea at that! Gonna look at them closer .... I don't think I'ld use the plate though .... maybe just put it on in winter to protect from snow?

Maybe someone will photoshop a polished stainless steel Bullbar on here?

LOL dont get me wrong, its a gorgeous ride. Only times I hate it is if it is really foggy and at night since you really cant see the side of the cliff. Used to go up that highway all the time when our company was doing some jobs in Blacksburg and thats what made me hate that drive. Going up there early in the mornings haulin *** and coming home late at night. Did that drive almost 3-4 times a week last summer for 3 months. Great pictures btw. VA has some of the best scenery around in my opinion.

I might use it to bypass 221 from Roanoke to Check there on Bent Mountain ...
... but can't think of many places that the Blue Ridge Parkway would save time ...
... as the speed limit is 45 and 35 and the tickets are in Federal court.

It's usually "the slow way" to get there ....

Agree on the roads and scenery, and "Thanks" ....
