eBay Projector Headlamps in 2004 F150 - Pics
Hey guys,
I had searched for some info on these prior to my wife purchasing them for Christmas for me. Couldn't find much, so we bit the bullet.
I just wanted to share what I've got so far. Install was super easy, including leveling the projectors (2" drop at 25')
These are the ones I got: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130580013577...84.m1497.l2649
Here's what they look like:

And here are the results:

Cutoff looks great, color looks pretty good too. I got 4300k because I didn't want the very blue look.
I haven't hooked up the halo's or led's yet.
Only thing I don't like so far is the kit doesn't allow both high beams and low beams on at the same time. I know that's probably how it's supposed to work, but initial impression is the high beams don't give me much. Maybe when I mod the highs to allow the fogs to stay on at the same time, that'll solve my issue.
Thoughts?

Well first off I can tell those are halogen projectors. Very narrow beam compared to real ones but if it suits you, that's great.
You're right when they are supposed to be like that. When you have high beams on, you want as little light as possible right in front of you. It causes your pupils to over-dilate and you basically ruin the purpose of high beams. I have fogs on a separate switch, but whenever I have my high beams on, I reach up to turn off my fogs and dial down the brightness of the gauges. It helps immensely.

Looks awesome, to the OP.. Almost made me buy them. My question to you, Alex.. Is when you ordered yours.. Did you have to take your headlights apart, and put them together?
I'm trying to understand what you mean. There is an hid ballast and bulb plugged in... So are you referring to the projector itself or the bulb?

i have the same set in my truck, i used the 30,000k deep blue the projector lens some how changes my color to almost purple up close but far off still is blue, never had a problem with seeing anything, my truck didnt come stock with fog lights so there on a spearte switch, as for the high and low beams on at the same time, theres a quick trick you can do under the dash that will let you have both high and low beams on, which should also fix your fog lights form going off also, not sure as i didnt have factory fogs.
theres two wires you jump under the dash, i believe its a red/yellow, and a red/black. this was on my 07 should be the same on yours. check with a meter before you jump.
the red/yellow should have be hot only when the headlight switch is on not parking lights, and the red/blk should also be hot if the high beam switch is in the low beam mode, and should not show nothing when in the high beam mode, just jump those two wires together and your low beams will be on as long as the headlight switch is on. not sure if you know or not, but the multi switch is what tell the headlights what to do, you should find 4 wires together that control the headlights, theres a hot form the headlight switch, low beam output, high beam output, and a constant 12v, what happens is when you turn the high beams on the switch just switches wires form low beam to high beam, why you can "flash" the high beams is because of the constant wire, when you pull back it simple connects the constant and the high beam output together. theres a post about this on here i will try to find it and post it for you.
on my projectors i used all led everything, the 3157 and the 194 i used leds and i think the rest already come with led. mine looks pretty good i have an up close picture in my album

ok nevermind the info was on another website so i will just copy it over. im proud of myself i almost remembered everything.
This mod is for people who have changed their headlight housings to use separate high and low bulbs, or HID Hi/Lo bulbs where you need the HID's to stay on, and the high to trigger the coil. If you use this with (typically stock) dual filament bulbs they will overheat & burn out quickly.
Legality is somthing else. Personally if I'm driving with my high's on it's because no one is in front of me, so what's the harm with having a little more light? and when a car comes, you shut them off.
This is called the Hi&Lo or Quad Lighting Mod. As a result of this mod if you're vehicle is equipped with fog lights that shut off when you switch to high's, they will remain on now too. That is called the Bambi Mod.
In the F150 these feed relays and not the lights themselves, so I used 16 ga wire and haven't looked back.
This works because the low beam relay is powered by the top red/black wire, in the low position, power is fed from the main headlight on/off switched red/yellow wire to the low beam (and fog) relay(s).
When switched to high, the red/yellow instead feeds the yellow high beam relay wire. This shuts off the low/fog relays. Jumpering the two red's keeps the low/fog relays fed when switched to high beams.
The Blue/Orange wire is a constant +12V allowing momentary flashing of the high beams regardless if the headlight switch is on or off.

thanks for the information! ill try it as intended for a while. then consider the change. i see other stock vehicles with seperate hi/lo bulbs that both stay on with hi's on so i'm not sure what the big deal would be other than the overheating you mention...

the only reason im using it. i used to use it the old way, never had a problem but when i switched to all hids, the high beams took so long to warm up at sometimes, on a really dark road, it would almost be a few seconds being in darkness, and then if you kept the high beams on very long it would be the same as switching back to the low beams, of course after i got my fog lights installed i never had my blackout much.
mine are 30,000k but at the time i had 8000k and still had a blackout, also if you use hid high beams dont expect to flash them very quickly either. just giving you a heads up. i myself dont see a problem with overheating anything, the purpose of high beams i would think you would be moving and not stoped somewhere for very long. now i can understand if you had both high and low on and sit somewhere for a while i can imagine there would be some heat generating. but if your moving as long as cooler air is hitting it i wouldnt ever see a problem.
good luck, oh p.s. when you hook up all the led/halos in these, make a disconnect somewhere for those, otherwise everytime you remove your headlight u will have to cut/disconnect them. im sure its just me but every other week im taking my headlights out doing something else, it just made life easier.
st one50, if you truly do have 30K HID's, I don't know how you can hardly see at all. If you wanted blue, you could have gone with a 6-8K kit. I don't understand why anyone would go that far down the color spectum as the human eye cannot pickup that light as well as something in the 4-5K range. You are effectively getting less light by using a 30K kit, but I guess if looks are all that was important, have at it.
BTW, ieee raider, he was referring to the projector you bought being designed for halogen bulbs, not HID's. I haven't seen a single aftermarket projector sold for the F-150 that uses Xenon-projectors. The only way to get the Xenon-projectors and get the best visible light/pattern from HID's is to do a retrofit.

i bought these same pair only black and mine have the ccfl rings. i can speak of these vs an actual hid projector since i used to have a half *** pair of mini h1's that i finally gave up on. the hid projector was obviously a slightly wider and more uniform pattern and the halogen projector in these are a little splotchy and the hot spot isnt perfect for the price, they are definitely worth it! i put a 55w 8k kit in mine which match up perfect to my 6k switchbacks. i still have a definite cut off line, a nice color flicker, and have never once been bright lighted.
as for the high beams staying on with the low beams, it's a bad idea. sounds like you'll get more output but raptor is right, you still only see right in front of you. i ran a separate relay for my high beams and all they do is make the street signs brighter down road.

I haven't done it yet, still debating.
But let's say I'm driving in the country (I live in the country basically, so I do that a lot). No other cars around, I want to see what's in my peripheral (animals darting onto road) and I can't see that with my high beams. I also want to see what's in the distance (once again, animals, cars on side of road, street signs, etc.) and I can't see that with my low beams.
So it would seem to me that having both on solves that issue?
ieee-raider, what's involved with getting the led's and halo's running?
Overall, is this a pretty easy install?
I found a set of black housings on eBay that are identical to yours. These look really cool and not like cheapo's!
