Not just First Ford But First Every Pick Up

Hi Guys,
Bought my first pickup yesterday a 2007 Lariat 150 4x4 5.4L, I have a couple quick questions if I may?
First off truck is very quiet I had it going along at 70mph today and diff was very quiet. One thing I noticed was from a full stop turning sharp the back seems to judder slightly up to about 10mph then it's gone, anything higher and it is smooth only does it from a full stop. A friend of mine that has had loads of trucks says it's normal and it's like a posi drive up to 10mph but I just wanted to see if anyone else has this.
Also my reverse sensors always turn themselves off when I put the truck in reverse and won't let me turn them on, if I'm in drive the off light on the switch goes out but as soon as I put the truck in reverse the light goes to off on the sensor button, any ideas guys? is there a fuse for the sensors?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

How many miles are on the truck? Juddering COULD be telling you you need new spark plugs and coils which isn't cheap and difficult to do yourself if you have minimal experience working on cars. They tend to go out about 100k miles. I say could be, because mine did it at higher speeds when it wanted to shift not real low speeds. It will be a misfire and eventually throw a flashing check engine light. I have an 04 which didn't have a backup sensor so I can't help with that.

Not sure how it plays with your eperiences so far .... but from the 2007 Owners Guide:

Pg 244
TRACTION-LOK AXLE (IF EQUIPPED)
This axle provides added traction on slippery surfaces, particularly when
one wheel is on a poor traction surface. Under normal conditions, the
Traction-Lok axle functions like a standard rear axle. The axle may
exhibit a slight noise or vibration in tight turns with low vehicle speed.
This is normal behavior and indicates the axle is working.
You might try taking off a little easier and seeing if that lessens it. Might just be some clutch chatter and more power makes the clutches try harder to lock, in sharp turns the outside wheel is turning much faster than the inside wheel.

There is a section on proper lubricants, your rear axle might could stand a change.

Pg 253
REVERSE SENSING SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
The Reverse Sensing System (RSS) sounds a tone to warn the driver of
obstacles near the rear bumper when the R (Reverse) is selected and the
vehicle is moving at speeds less than 3 mph (5 km/h). The system is not
effective at speeds above 3 mph (5 km/h) and may not detect certain
angular or moving objects.
Pg 255
The RSS automatically turns on
when the gearshift lever is placed in
R (Reverse) and the ignition is ON.
An RSS control allows the driver to
turn the RSS on and off. To turn the
RSS off, the ignition must be ON,
and the gear selector in R
(Reverse). An indicator light on the
control will illuminate when the system is turned off. If the indicator
light illuminates when the RSS is not turned off, it may indicate a failure
in the RSS. The RSS will remain off until either the RSS control is
pushed again or the ignition switch is recycled.
Look under the rear bumper and make sure no loose hanging wires from the sensors.

Be sure you read the guide, it can save you much $$$. Make sure you know the proper use of the 4WD system, it starts page 255.

Good trucks!

Thank you so much I downloaded one from the site as my truck didn't come with any manuals other than the new head unit manual, so if anyone has a standard one for sale please let me know. I'm going to get rear end and engine oil changed today.
Thanks guys..

There is a tag on the drivers door jamb. On that tag there is a listing for "axle". Get that code and we can decipher for you. It will be two digits, either two numbers or a letter and a number.

Look on the door sticker for the axle code. If the code is a letter and a number (ex B6), it is a LS rear. If 2 numbers it is an open rear.

If the rear has never been serviced, it probably should be with the proper weight (75W140) full synthetic gear oil and Fords friction modifier (if LS).

19 — 3.55 non-limited slip — F-150
25 — 4.10 non-limited slip — F-150
26 — 3.73 non-limited slip — F-150/Mark LT
27 — 3.31 non-limited slip — F-150
B5 — 4.10 limited slip — F-150
B6 — 3.73 limited slip — F-150/Mark LT
H9 — 3.55 limited slip — F-150

Mine for example, is 3.55 LS .... hence the H9 under "AXLE".

I assume these numbers/codes would still hold true for an 05? If that's the case I just went out and looked for mine and it's B6. This is my first Ford and
I'm impressed.
