Front End Rattle...Fixed

I thought I'd share a fix for a nagging problem my truck has had for quite a while now: I had an annoying rattle at the front end, passenger side and I couldn't track it down. More accurately, I thought it was the heat shield on the cat and focused all of my attention there. I even went to the dealer and rode with a service writer but as always is the case, I couldn't replicate the sound. Then the other day, I had my windows down and was making a sweeping turn near a sound wall and the rattle was there, loud and clear. It turned out to be the rotor splash shield rattling against the steering knuckle. I had to remove the tire, rotor then the three small bolts holding the shield and set it off with foam tape (rubber washers would do the trick too). Now all is well. What a relief!

Diagnose the sound by reaching around the front tire and knock the splash shield...if it rattles, that's your problem.
