Power Window gone night night..

Hi,
04 FX4 150....My drivers side window goes down but not up.
Dealer said a cable snapped and motor went bad.
I can get the parts I need online cheaper than dealer.
Has anybody had to replace, said above?
Do I need any special tools.

Thanks

Its basic tools , maybe torx bits, metric sockets , just find a writeup in search, very easy to do,mine is a 2004, replaced rr and lf, then repaired rr per writeup but havent used the rr after repair , just wanted to see if it was repairable

Before you checkout the thread Sam posted...

How to Fix a Defective Window Switch

Just to make sure its not your switch. Mine used to go down fine, but I used to have to press the up button like 5 million times before it would roll up. Used link above and works perfect now. (If that is your problem)

The window regulators/motors are known problem on these trucks. I have replaced 2 so far. I would order a new one from tascaparts. Fairly easy to replace and no specialized tools are needed. The link Sam posted should help you out.

You can get a stronger replacement for less than one at a dealer, made by Dorman, at AutoZone and other parts stores. Somewhere around $125.

X2 on what Shankman said... sounds like its your switch.

I have had a regulator go bad and had a problem with the switch. If its the regulator it will drop and stay down.

I used that link he posted to take my switches apart and clean the contacts. That was a few months ago and it is still working fine.

I agree, clean the switch contacts, I bet that fixes it.

Mine went bad just before I took it to the body shop. They replaced it for $211 parts and labor.

Wish I would have seen this BEFORE I bought a new switch (had the same exact problem). The previously mentioned Dorman switch is $44 at Rock Auto, glad it wasn't $100+ as stated in the link !!

I've "cleaned switches" before on my kids power wheels ride on cars. Nope it's not hard to do and would have saved me a few $$$. Now that I know the window switches have the same issue I'll save some $$$ next time.

I'm having the same issue with my '04 Screw. Since I'm leaving work at half a day and the weather is nice outside, maybe I'll buy a 6-pack and see if I can fix mine before spending money on a new switch.

I have a similar problem (sorry for jumping your thread) my passenger window was giving me a problem where it went down and wouldn't go up (unless i hit the switch up a few times.) gradually over time. Then one day it went down and wouldn't go up. I got in the truck the next morning hit the switch on the passenger door it went up and that was it. It hasn't budged since. Doesn't do a thing using the driver door or the passenger door switch. Has my motor gone bad or is it the switches? I just don't see how both switches could have failed on the same day.
