new fuel filter...check engine light

I just replaced the fuel filter. Disconnected the bottom plug on the outside of the frame rail. Ran it til it shut off then tried to start it a few more times, then changed the filter. Starts right up no problem but check engine light came on.

Why?

I also would like to know why you did it like this.....

Next time just depress the schrader style valve on the fuel rail.......use a small screw driver and hold a rag on it.....

Need the dtc codes also.....

I read the entire" how to change the fuel filter on a 2004-08" in the Technical articles section. Disconnecting the plug was one of the ways discussed to relieve the fuel pressure. I guess this will end up costing me more than just letting the dealer do it in the first place.

Would you advise against attempting a reset by unplugging the battery?

I usually let the truck sit for awhile then change the fuel filter and that's it. I've done it about three times now and have been meaning to do it again but I've lost the tool for the clips. OP before you disconnect the battery and reset the computer go to your local autoparts store (autozone, advance) and have them pull your codes then we can give you a better answer.

Update: had the codes checked. evap sensor and a misfire. They said I should have held the key in the on position longer to prime the system before starting.
