Radiator recommendations

Hi guys. Looks like I need a new radiator for my 07 Supercrew. It only has 49k miles on it, but it sprung a leak. I haven't pulled it out yet, as I am waiting on the trans cooler line tool to arrive. What I can see, the leak is at the bottom, and not any of the hoses.

A friend tells me they don't really repair radiators anymore, it is best to just replace it. I am ok with that, and am enough of a mech that this is not a difficult job for me, once I get that little tool.

My question is, can anyone recommend a good quality radiator? I'm tempted to go with oem, local dealer price $350, but don't mind aftermarket as long as it fits, and is somehow better than the oem.

Thanks,

Patrick in Albuquerque

Check out Saleen radiators. Inexpensive and fairly bolt on mod. Better cooling too.

x2 for saleen and a second option being the ford racing radiator, uses the stock hoses unlike the saleen that requires a new lower hose. but the saleen has better cooling, but is getting harder to find

Try www.tascaparts.com for a better price on a oem one......it might help

Or try to look for the ford racing radiator if you can find one.....

Went with the Ford Racing here. It's $150 - $200 depending on where. Drops right in.

If you do end up going this route make sure that you flush it and the cooler lines real well before installing. Mine had lots of metal shavings inside.

Go with the Ford Racing Radiator, the price is right and it's a 2" thick core, and as a plus, it's all aluminum, no plastic tanks. Had one on mine for the last two years..no problems. I saw 'Mike A.'s post, little late for me now but I found no shavings or anything obvious with mine. Google around for the best prices The part # is M-8005-P221

I believe Tasca is offering 10% on any and all OEM parts. One of the Tasca employees are on here, you just need to email him.

Yeah, I hate those damn plastic tanks. Almost every car that I've had that had one has leaked. The Ford Racing radiator is a deal for what you get I thought. Cost less than most of the crappy no-name plastic tank replacements and it's a very well made part.

Thanks to all who answered my question about radiators. One of the local dealers sold me a stock radiator for $350 so I took it. Hope I don't regret not going with the racing rad, but I'm in a bit of a hurry to get the rig back on the road... this is mostly the wife's vehicle and she's not happy today with not having her baby to drive.

So I bought an oem rad from the local dealer. The retail price was $422 they sold it to me for $350. It fit perfectly, dropped right into place and hooked up. I filled the system put the truck back on the road.

One thing I wanted to mention is about the little plastic trans oil cooler line removal tool. Ford was good enough to put one in the box with the new radiator. I wish I'd known about this, as I'd ordered a tool from Rotunda and waited four days for it to get here so I could finish the job. I opened the box to get the radiator out, and there's a tool in there, in a plastic bag along with an instruction sheet how to use it.
