leveled 35" in snow
leveled 35" in snow
how are you guys leveled with 35's doing in snow and which tire are you running?
we're getting some pretty harsh winters in chicago now and i want to move up from my 2001 grand cherokee to an 07 / 08 4x4 crew cab with a bilstein 5100 / 35" km2 setup , will this be a good combo for harsher snowfalls ? or would a less aggressive tire be better?
any thoughts on lockers in snow or an lsd ? my only thought so far has been eaton e's front and rear so i can stay truly open for dd.
thanks guys

35's will be good in deep snow, but i wouldn't want them for the rest of winter driving conditions like ice and slush. You would be better off with the 35's for the summer and snow tires in the winter.
I use my 35" mtz in the snow and used my 35" toyo mt's last year and did just fine, you just have to drive accordingly...Plus the bigger tires are more fun was going through around 3 ft of snow when they didnt plow certain roads. I just aired down to around 30 I think it was or 28 and did better than most other vehicles around me. This year I am running my stock ones but if you cant do that the 35"s will be just fine...
As far as lockers are concerned, I would consider something like a gear driven LSD like a Torsen or TrueTrac diff. I have been running a TrueTrac for 3 years here in Michigan and have no regrets. These diffs are open until one wheel slips then they lock up. As said before, these are gear driven, no clutches to slip, no need for friction modifier additives in the differential oil.

To get around in snow well it helps to have a tire with some good side bites. These help in mud too but the same concept applies for snow too. I have 3" level with rear blocks and 33" but sadly have not had any snow to speak of since getting the tires. I did have some good snow just before replacing them and was not impressed with the stock tires in snow at all but what can I say I am not a fan of goodyears. (personally opinion)
i got 35 with a 2 inch level and last jan when we had that snow fall it did great...my truck is 4x4 tho

Mine and my dads (he has an 05) Did great in the snow last year with stock a/t's on it. 35's should be fine.
Nice lookin truck. Your only about 20min drive from me lol

you can do 35's, just choose a tire according to your needs not because they look cool.
i'm a huge fan of selectable lockers, if you drive the street you probably don't want to be locked all the time. turning the lockers on and off is nice for on road characteristics, or just use a LSD
