Thumbs down searched but no luck, werid 4x4 problems...

I found many links on this, but none like my problem. ok, so the day after i bought my 05 4x4, i try the 4x4(i know stupid)....It didnt work. So i took it back in and the were nice enought to fix it free of charge. They said it was just a small electrical part. So i tested it after and it worked perfect. now about two weeks later, i just went into the hills and was going to do some muddying and noticed that when it was in 4hi no lights came on but seamed to be in 4wheel. When i went in to 4lo the light would come on and i could feel in was in 4wheel. Any help would be greatly apperciated. Thanks

Todd

I'm just shooting blanks here, but is it possible you just have a light out on the gauges? You said it feels like you're in fourwheel and it'd be easy enough to tell in the mud

Yeah, bulbs are small cheap electrical devices that sometimes fail? Be a good start.

Well when i first turn the key on they both light up. I was messing with it the other day, and now when i out it in 4lo it "slams" into gear. Sounds really rough.... but still no 4hi.

Thanks for the help.

You mean when you first go into low? As in, throw it in low, put the truck in gear, and then start giving it gas?

I think mine did that the one time I did mess with 4 low

I had a problem kind of similar to that. my 4x4 hi wouldnt work, but my 4x4 low would. It turns out that my 4x4 low actually wasnt working. It would sound and feel like it was in 4x4 low, but it actually wasnt. It would "slam" into 4x4 low and everything when I would "put" it in 4x4 low, but it really wasnt in 4x4 at all. try going on some dirt or gravel and spin the tires just to double check that the 4x4 low is working.

If the shift motor on the transfer case is sticking (happens a lot, especially if not used very often) you can try tapping on the shift motor with a hammer handle and see if it will then go into 4HI. Same way we used to "unstick" starter solenoids sometimes. Since you say the light bulb is working-...the 4HI light won't come on if the shift motor doesn't actuate. Could be the shift motor is bad.

It ended up being my front passenger IWE hub lock actuator. I had to get it all replaced.
