Anyone elses trucks rusting out?

I have an 05 with 112,000 miles and i noticed paint bubbling an the very bottom corner of the cab by the bed. Its right where it curves under and back behind the box. I noticed rust stains on my nerf bars and see both sides has a silver dollar sized bubble hanging and now has popped. Why and what caused this? I have yet to see another truck with this issue. I do not know if it is through the body since the paint is still covering it up and just loose. I ordered a new truck and have 2 months yet before its in so i plan to patch it before i trade it. Anyone else see this?

There was a guy from my town who had close to the same problem. The rust was somewhere by the bed and he had to have it all patched up. Don't know what caused it though, or how he takes care of it.

My 2004 doesn't have a spec of rust on it. If you live up north where they use lots of salt on the roads, then that can cause rust to appear. Especially on the cab corners and rockers since rocks normally put paint chips in those spots and they rust easily.

That's sickening!

The only place I'm having problems is around the gas door, which isn't rusting, just down to metal.. Was going to get it fixed this year but didn't. Going to smear some grease around it again this winter to stop it from getting worse.

Every vehicle has a "weak link" as far as corrosion issues are concerned -- from what I've seen around this site, cab corners seem to be it for the '04 - '08 trucks. I think the problem guys have been running into is that they don't make patch panels for these vehicles yet -- not enough of them requiring the repair as of yet, I would guess.....???

kobra-

That is exactly what mine looks like. My drivers side isnt that bad...just a bubble on the very bottom side. The pass side has been repainted 4 years ago due to a small accident and it looks identical to your pictures.

The body shops here told me to fix it right...the bed needs to be removed and cut the corners out and fix it that way which would run about 1000 or more. To just bondo it up 200-400...but may only last for 2 months...2 years...

Im trading it off in 2 months when my new truck comes in. The deal for price has been pretty much been made. Local dealership that ive bought every vehicle from and as my family has.........didnt even test drive or look at my truck. So...do i fix it for the sake that he is trusting me that i have a decent truck or say...its his own fault for not looking? Im leaning towards a cheap bondo job to get it by to the next guy and keep the trust factor that the sales guy has with me.....

I've seen a very very few with the cab corner rust. Wonder if a man would be well advised to access the back side via a hole, and spray a good heavy coating of greasy undercoat in there and close hole with a sealed plug?

My dad get's this stuff through a dealer of it and that is exactly what you do... been doing all the vehicles with it... all the crevices. It doesn't come off and gels preventing anything from getting behind it or washing it off. Made for underwater (iirc) and heavy duty commercial uses. Did some research on it as I hadn't heard of it except from him (my uncle recommended it) and man the stuff is kept secret. I posted it before and it was ignored, here's the solution

Wynn's Viscotine
