Bed storage ideas.

Anyone have a bed storage system that is not a normal tool box?

I was thinking of building a box out of wood or something, but I have no idea how I would secure it in the bed.

Just build a box and paint it, or take some scrap metal we got around and weld it up into a box, then paint it.

Nothing fancy, and top it off with a simple lid and key lock.

Nothing of great value will be inside it, just some truck stuff like a tow strap and ratchet straps.
Jumper cables and a blanket in case I break down in snow/cold weather, and my jack and tire changing things.

It will not have to be very big, not much going into it.
Would just like to make some room in the cab, and clear out the clutter.
Might pick up a emergency aid kit as well.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks.

rubber-made rough neck tub and a bungee cord to the front of the bed and call it done...you can even drill 2 holes opposite sides through the lid and top lip of the tub for a locks if you wish. They are pretty water proof too

That's a pretty good idea, and if I get a black one it might not stand out.

Thanks!

You can find them on craigslist for like $50 for a nice diamond plate aluminum one or $10 for a plastic one. Not worth building one unless you need it to be a shape or size that no company makes already.

Too much money and time to store $50-$80 worth of items.

The jumper cables where free, dad got them for me from walmart, but they are pretty good cables.

The tow strap and tie downs where around $30 from the local harbor freight.
($20 and $10)

The jack and such came with the truck, and the blanket was given to me.

But, that is a nice box and would be worth it if I had something worth some money I was wanting to store outside.

I think ill stop by walmart and just look around and see what they have in the $50-$80 range and pick up a cheep lock and a new set of tie downs.

I will look around on the local CL, thanks for the idea.

my local walmart carries a very heavy duty black plastic storage box. 50 gallons. they are like 40 bucks. I was thinking of getting one and using a simple bike lock cable to keep it there. not like rubber made. hard sides and a deep lid to keep water out. they are in the automotive section.

I use a 2x8 cut to fit the slots in the bed and a milk crate or two but my truck has a tonneau cover on it.

I have similar ones to those Black metal boxes but mine are plastic and swing out under my bed cover. Tried posting a picture of them from one of my albums but it didn't work for whatever reason.

I have one of those RoughNeck storage boxes since my truck was new and it stores everything, plus it comes out easily. I am looking at new one at Sears though, that has a handle and wheels for easier moving plus it is rigid so I can stand on it if needed. The RoughNeck box is not that rough!

Everything is priceless if you need it and don't have it. If you buy a cheap (quality) box you will probably end up buying two.

Your trusting a tow strap from Harbor Freight?? You sir, are a brave man.

Just get you a tool box? Tractor Supply Co has them for like $150 for a brand new black chest....

Whats wrong with that?

I have used it plenty of times.

First time was pulling a mercury grand marquis to a gas station.

Second time was pulling dad's 80's model dually diesel until it started. (M/T)

Got used once to pull a mustang back on the road after the driver backed the rear wheels off a hill.

Then We used it to pull a S-10 out of a mud pit with a tractor.
Its worked fine, and the ratchet straps have held with no issues as well.

The cheapest black one at the local TSC is $269.99.
