I tried searching for this, but couldn't find anything. Please point me in the right direction if there is something out there I am missing.

I have a 2008 F150 Limited. When I park the truck after driving, I shift the gear selector into the "park" position and after 5-10 seconds, I can hear and feel the selector move a little. Like it wasn't fully engaged into the "park" position and its seating itself better. It doesn't do it all the time, just every once in a while........and enough to annoy me. LOL

Anybody heard of this or have something similar happening? Any ideas what might be going on?

My 2006 does this. I always thought it was just the truck going into the park gear. Like the weight of the truck is resting on the gear at that point.

 

It just doesn't seem normal though. Makes me think about it a lot and want to jam the gear selector as far forward as I can even though it shouldn't be treated that way.

 

I had the same issue with 2 of my older Fords (94 F150 4x4 and a 98 F250) this sounds like the beginning of what happened to me which eventually escaladed to a sloppy gear shifter problem. I wasn’t able to engage Park, Reverse of Drive.

This is how I fixed the issue and it maybe the same for you... and it is surprisingly simple...

When you shift gears the force of moving the selector back and forth puts stress on a few small mounting bolts on the gear lever behind the dash. If you get down under the dash you should be able to look up and identify where the gear lever runs behind the dash. Do this by wiggling the gear lever while you up underneath the dash, you should see some movement. There should be 3-4 screws that attached to assembly to a bracket. In my case these had come loose and caused the issue. They were small star bolts and after a little tightening they were good to go... Hope this helps.
