The little stick at the bottom of the tailgate...

What is its exact purpose? Is it part of the spring assisted lift?

That "lil stick" is rubbing on my newly acquired Recon white lightning tail light bar. I want to grind off about half an inch of it so that it doesnt rub anymore.

I seriously doubt that it will harm anything. But just want to make sure

Any thoughts??

Thanks

Not sure what it is or does, but I removed mine with no side effects. It unscrews with a Torx T-25 or something like that. I think I removed the tailgate to get to it. Be very careful not to scratch/dent the tailgate if you remove it.

Are you talking about the "stick" on the right side of the tailgate? I believe that is there to prevent the tailgate from just falling off if you unhooked the restraining cables from the bed. Otherwise the tailgate would just fall off when lowering without the restraining cables

Just curious, why remove it, something you trying to do that puts it in your way?

If you take off both side straps, it will fall all the way to the bumper. It won't "fall off" since the only way to remove the tailgate is at a 15 or 30* angle. I agree with Supercrewzer359 - I believe it is part of the lift assist system.

There are a few other members with the light bar installed - see what they have done to alleviate this. Or better yet, contact the MFG.

I think it prevents the tailgate from contacting the top of the bumper when you disengage the cables.

yup!

It's there in case the cables become disengaged. I just removed it a couple hours ago. It has no other purpose. Came off easily and is now out of the way.

Thanks for the input guys!

Yeah I took a wild cat grinder to mine 2 1/2 years ago when installing my fire/ice bar. Never looked back, lol.

Some have it and some don't. I removed mine to run wires through that hole for my tailgate power lock and camera
