FPDM- Can you use washers?

Can you use washers to space the fpdm from the frame? Mine looks clean and just wondering if this would be the best way to go or just order a whole new unit.

Thanks!!

If your module is in "brand new" condition, and a 2004 - I wouldn't touch it. Or at the least, put some nylon washers in there.

I'm not sure if the metal frame to aluminum housing contact is causing the problem - or the road salt used during the winter that's causing the deterioration.

yes, you can... I used washers and nuts to space mine out.
see my post at the bottom of page 1.

Definitely space it out. I cleaned mine, rubbed a coating of grease on it, and then reinstalled it with the spacers.

You also need longer bolts to do this. All the info is in my post.

I just called my local ford dealer on this part and they said there is only two in the country and listed as emergency order. They have been on back order for a while.

As others have said, if your unit is in decent condition, spacers will work. The problem is, if your unit is already corroded, removing it to put the spacers in may be all it needs to go **** up. Then you'd have to be fighting over the two available. So, how lucky do you feel?

Your dealer is full of ****. Both Tasca Parts and Team ford in Vegas have new FPDM's.

Have you had it off so you can see that it looks 'ok'?

Mine looked fine too, it was the hole that was against the crossmember that you couldn't see until it was removed...

That's right, I think the part number change us more based on the mounting revision and hardware then the unit itself

I presume that it is necessary to remove the negative battery cable when working on this since it is an electrical device?

I didn't.

I just made sure key was out of truck hanging on my hook in the shop while I was doing it.
