Successful plug change

My buddy had his to get a couple things checked out on his truck today and while it was in the shop he had the plugs changed. I didn't know he was gonna have this done at first until he informed me about it when I took him to pick it up earlier. This mechanic knew about the problem with our plugs but had never changed any before. Needless to say I was worried about him breaking them off in the head and my buddy getting charged an outrageous price to get the broken pieces removed but to my surprise they all came out in one piece. The mechanic didn't use anything to help make them come out easier. Just used a ratchet and removed them all and reinstalled the new plugs. I do know Ford supposedly fixed the problem for the 2007 model trucks but i'm not sure when his truck was built. His truck has 125k miles on it, which is crazy for a 2007 model but like I said all of the plugs came out in piece without any special techniques. Also the cooling fan turned out to be ok. His idler pulley had gotten weak and the belt was slipping preventing the fan to work properly. The odd thing about this though is that the belt never squealed nor came off. He had the COP boots replaced before reinstalling the cops on the new plugs. The total repair bill came out to a little under $300 for parts and labor. This guy is an independent mechanic and is the best in town that I would recommend to anyone.

Good job, glad to hear everything went well. This is a good sign kudos for the mechanic!

Good for him I just did one and 5 of 8 plugs decided not to want to cooperate. What a lovely Monday it was. Thought I would try my luck at the end of the day with cylinder #8 and left it for the following day. I love plugs if ya got the right tool still have original demo from OTC tools. 1 of 3. And hopefully the new mods per my request were designed into new ones.

Your buddy is one lucky guy! Glad they came out. The new plug design started in mid 2008.

Thanks for the clarification Bluejay. He is definately lucky. I never thought about asking the mechanic about looking at the old plugs to see how they looked. They may have already been changed before, the truck had 107k miles already on it when my friend bought it from the dealer. Overall its been well taken care of. An older guy had it before and his job traveled alot which explains the high miles.
