Ford dealship service dept issue

So I called the ford dealership service dept today and got a response I need advice on. I called bc every once in a while driving at a steady speed and I get on the gas the trans seems to be searching for the right gear and the engine revs a little. I asked them if this is common or a problem. They asked if I had replace the battery, which I have. Then told me that they have to scan in a new program (through the odb2 port) and it will fix the problem. Ok cool my truck is under warranty so I thought it would be covered, Umm NO. They told me it's $98 for the service. First off has anyone had this done or heard of this as a fix. Second am I crazy for not wanting to pay for this.

What's their reason for it not being covered? What does the battery have to do with anything. Sounds odd, and an easy $98 for the dealer.

Good to hear that my train for thought is rational. The PCM holds the program no matter if it has power or not. Its always there. I just wasnt in to mood to argue over the phone. Would rather call them out in person. Above and beyond that, have you heard of this fix?

There are some tsb's out there for the 08's on this lurching issue....you can look for them in this link>>>http://www.ford-trucks.com/navrecalltsb.html

Dealerships are not owned by Ford and different ones treat like issues differently....best advice is call another dealer.

I've seen it mentioned in a couple other transmission threads. As far as having to pay for it, thats BS (just my opinion tho).

I told my dealer that my truck was going to get me killed and they reflashed it for free.

That equipment and software they use doesn't come free from Ford.....it carries a hefty price tag.....

I'm just assuming since he said "It's not covered" it was still under warranty. So if it's under warranty shouldn't it be covered....What am I missing?

Every dealer is different on how and why they approach warranty issues the way they do, and what is covered and what is not.....

That's why I suggested call another dealer.....just my $0.02

I have this same issue. Actually this issue was one of the reasons I joined this forum. The response I received from the dealer was the tranny was going out and needed to be rebuilt at the tune of 2000.00. I posted the same issues on here and was told it was the way the computer is set up from ford and that getting a programmer would fix this issue. So today I am going up to PHP and getting set up with some tunes. I'll let you know how it goes.

If its a reflash of the PCM I would not be paying for anything if the truck is under warranty.

Call a different dealer...sounds like the customer service and your business is not appreciated by the one you visited if they won't eat a $98 bill to keep a customer happy who can potentially spend 30-50K in the future on a new vehicle and service for their current one.

I left one dealer simply for their petty business practices and unwillingness to satisfy a customer. I have been with my dealership for well over 5+ years and am always treated OUTSTANDING. And because of that have purchased another vehicle from them and have all my maintenance work (major) performed on the truck with them. They always are quick, call me with updates and shuttle me back and forth to my house and give me a free cup of coffee. They also give me options for parts and because of that I continue to provide them with business and will do so until their attitude changes.

Your tranny issue should be solved with a programmer such as the EDGE Evo, Gryphon or PHP tunes. They can also upgrade the PCM file thru Ford and correct the issue. I know my dealer would not hesitate to hook it up and download the file to see if it worked....and they would never bring up owing them any money and my truck is OUT of warranty.

The dealer should not have to eat it. Warranty issues are charged to FoMoCo, but sometimes a dealer is in hot water with Ford due to ecessive warranty charges and they may have to get prior approval from Ford, and don't want to do that for a small item.

How many miles on the odometer there?

I can't understand why it's not covered under warranty if the PCM needs a flash to cure a transmission hickup? It's not like a battery change wiped the PCM clean. My '07 has 5 year 60K warranty.
