fpdm question

So I went to the dealer and bought a new fpdm. It looks physically the same and has the part number as the other (5l8a-9d370-aa), but the parts guy didn't seem confident it would go on a 2006 at least at first. I brought it home. it has several other numbers on it which are different from the old one, but i assume these numbers vary from part to part and are not important? Just want to be sure before I plug it in. Has anyone else noticed if these numbers vary on theirs?

If Ford found a new supplier the part number might have changed also there's one for the SD that will work but has a different part number.

Here's a link for some pics...https://www.f150online.com/forums/4122942-post2.html

Thanks for the link and info. it's appreciated. Funny how I had just read about this part going bad a few months ago. I figured mine probably wasn't too bad- wrong! I got a AAA membership renewal that day. started off from a stop sign, and just made it to the shoulder when it stalled. luckily I was within the 5 mile limit for the AAA service.

he may have sold you a fpdm for an escape. they look identical but will have a different part number. we have done this for a couple of customers with tow in no starts. the f150 fpdm are backorderd for months. we havent had any failures doing this and i would put one on my own truck if my fpdm craps out. i have had a fpdm ordered for my own truck for 3 weeks now and still no est delivery date.

Yikes!

I wonder what conditions are causing the corrosion on these. I live in wisconsin and with all the rain/snow/slush/salt we deal with, mine doesn't look anywhere near as bad as some I've seen on this site.

The part number on my new FPDM was different. The old started with a 5 an the new started with a 4, I believe. If it looks the same and has the stand off bolts, you're all set.

Wow, that thing is way FUBAR'd.
It is interesting that none of these failures are from the states in the milder climes, ie. TX, AZ, CA, etc. (at least it seems so). I bought a new FPDM about a year ago and its sitting on my bench as a spare. I should get under my rig and take pics of my OEM one for comparison with you guys in the snow states.

Lol! Thanks 88racing. I got one up, but couldn't enlarge it so you could see it well. When I crawled under there and pulled on it lightly, it just came apart in my hand.

Yep, I'ld say that one was "toast". Hard to believe it was running recently.

You know, if I found muyself in a salvage yard and saw a recent model year F-150 wrecked, or even 250 gas or Escape ...
... and if I could see that it wasn't corroded into two or three pieces ...
... I believe I'ld consider maybe latching on to it as a spare.

Been on backorder some time now ain't they? Mine looked fine, but I puled ity anyway and found the beginnings of corrosion where the aluminum was in direct contact with the frame. She's good now though, and I was fortunate to find where that squirrel had chewed wires.

Bad Squirrel!

I'm in Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley, but I never did drive a personal vehicle to work after basic school in 1979 so my '07 rarely got driven in nasty weather.
