Ball Joints
Ball Joints
How much does it cost in labor to have the Front Driver and passenger top and bottom ball joints replaced? Also, where can I get a good deal on upper and lower ball joints?
I have a 2006 f150 4.6l Crewcab 2wd.
Thanks.

the best place to get it done would be your own garage sinceit would be free. it is a fairly simple process. the best place to buy the parts would be Rock auto. they have great prices and all the parts you could ever need. If you dont want to do the job yourself i would say expect to pay around $400-500 including alignment. And depending on where you live it could be more.

Look it up on youtube. There are good videos. I had never messed with a ball joint before, and I replaced my lower ones fairly easily. It was a little time consuming, but I wasn't in a hurry. I got them for $19.99 each at auto zone, and they rented me the ball joint press for free. $40 hurts a whole lot less than $400
I've broke apart my front suspension multiple times for different things and it really isn't that hard if you got the tools it just takes time.
Get your parts at rockauto.com. I am in the process of researching and doing the job myself. I have a 2004 4x4. One thing I have found is that moog parts are about the best parts out there. They are greaseable and come with zerk fittings.
On the 4x4 you need to replace the entire upper control arms that come with new moog ball joints and the lowers can be replaced outright with moog ball joints.
But remember that is for the 4x4. I am thinking the 4x2 is probably different.
Do some research on moogproblemsolvers.com and search at youtube.com to find install videos.
Parts you get at rockauto.com they are the amazon.com of vehicle parts.
Good luck

Was it $110 in labor for one side or for Driver and passenger side?
$110 labor isn't bad. I was just quoted $900 to replace both lower ball joints by Curry's Automotive. They said it would take 5 hours. Last weekend I installed an AutoSpring leveling kit and 2 hubs in less than 3 hours in my driveway. Needless to say I told them to forget it. Unfortunately they wouldn't do the alignment and I had just had them mount my new tires. Cost of the ball joints at Advance Auto for Moog parts is $36 each. I'll borrow a ball joint tool from my neighbor and do them myself....
I hate auto shops, I guess there are none you can trust to give you an honest price to do anything.

I just had mine done at a shop. Cost me a little over $500 to replace both front lower ball joints, both upper control arms, and do a one-time alignment. Had to replace the bolts and washers too for the control arms, still had the locking ones from the factory.
BTW, these were all Moog parts.

Raybestos parts are the best....less friction, better warranty...better construction than Moog or factory. I didn't believe it til I saw it.
rdotson - There ARE shops that are honest and won't rip you off...but it is obviously gonna be more expensive than doing it yourself. It's like comparing cooking your own steak to going to Outback...what costs more?? The professional meal you don't have to worry about burning yourself lol. I get compliments all the time about my blatant honesty with customers, even though it makes me look stupid sometimes lol. Don't show your ignorance by claiming nobody who works at a shop is honest just cuz you don't wanna pay for a professional to do it. Not all are honest, but I HATE when people say they don't trust shops because "I'm a woman and shops take advantage of women." SKETCHY SHOPS DO THAT, NOT ALL SHOPS.
Anyway, don't stereotype cuz you've had a bad experience. I have built my career on integrity and I don't plan to be judged without reason cuz I work at an "auto shop"
