Took step bars off!
I took the bug shield off yesterday. How hard is it to take off the pin stripe?? is it like taking off a sticker using a blow dryer or heat gun?? Also what do you guys think of the black and chrome bull bar instead of the chrome??
You can use a hair dryer it will take a little time but its worth it. Thats what I used to take my pinstripe off.
Not really a residue but if you looked at it in a light, you can see a shadow of where the stripe was. Over time you can polish it or buff it out. I haven't done this yet, soon I will need to get my truck buffed out. Once you take them off with the dryer go over the paint with some cleaner wax, whatever brand you use, their pretty much all good today. So far so good. Any other questions let me know.
Im gonna have to say the more chrome you take off the better it looks. My stx has very little chrome already and i even took off my chrome step bars. I swapped out my tails for black harley tails. Have yet to change out my headlight housings to harleys as well. I have them its just been too cold up here in the northeast to get on those just yet. All in all, less chrome the better.
Im not a big chrome fan either, doesnt look that bad though. Not my preference. I actually think the side steps looked alot better on it.
I would have keep side steps, removed the rocker panel chrome. One day sooner or later it wont look good to take them off when paint fades or paint under it gets subject to it being clued on.

One problem with the chrome stick ons is that if you bend one or have one start peeling off, you may have issues matching it up. My buddy with a Chevy pickup had that problem. He finally just took them all off and sure enough as tman07f150 said, the paint was different underneath. Fortunately he decided to keep the truck for a hunting rig and its purpose changed from a bling street truck to a practical dirt truck. A couple of years later it was unrecognizable...
