Replacing Torque converter
Replacing Torque converter
How hard would it be? Are there any write ups on here, I did a search of this forum and didn't find any.
Also, anyone have a guide or anything, I am not sure about the Chiltons at the local auto parts store because they are wrapped up and I cannot open them to read.
Basically the a new HD torque converter is $300 and the shop wants $500 to install it and I would rather do it myself over a weekend.
thanks for you help guys!

Yeah, I found an adapter to go on my floor jack for $50 so I think I am going to get that. The only problem is I have never done a torque converter before, so I don't know if there is any catches I am going to come across or anything special I have to do. I mean it seems straight forward and I would rather not pay $500 for someone to install it when I am capable
There are probably 4 studs on the converter that go through the flexplate. You need to remove the nuts and push the converter back into the transmission. Remove transmission, and the torque converter can be removed by hand by pulling outward. You will need to seat the new converter in the splines, which may entail rotating it while trying to seat it, but the converter will go further into the housing when the splines are matched up. When that's done, it should be seated deep enough in the transmission that the studs don't quite touch the flex plate when the transmission is remounted. That was my last experience with an E4OD, but the 4R75W should be similar
